I work in an Opticians, and had the honour of greeting a rather fed up and p*ssed of gent that came in waving his specs at me.
After seating him down he explained in rather a loud voice that he had recently bought glasses from me and I had said 'they were the best thing since sliced bread'. (Well i try to be honest in my descriptions......really i do) Anyway I discovered they had broken on the temple of the frame, I also noticed that the frame was an old style that we had stopped selling some time ago.

After a quick check up on the gentlemans records it was recorded that he had bought the frame back in 2003. I explained to him that all frames were guaranteed for 2 years but 5 was stretching things a tad to far. As luck would have it I found one that we hadnt sold and offered to put his lenses into it, at a reduced price of 50%. The original frame was £150.00.

with a huff he walked out, the wind clearly out of his sails and I havent seen him since........

I wonder sometimes just what you have to do to keep people happy.....

Five years ago is recent?!

It still boggles my mind that people start the communication process with yelling and carrying on. Is there some sucky customer handbook out there or something that tells these wastoids how to act to get management to acquiesce to your demands? Is there some antithesis website to CS.com that focuses on acting like someone who needs to be reminded how to breathe every few minutes?

I'min an opticians as well, and I get it all the time. We will do free adjustments, replace the frame within a year if it's a manufacturing fault, try and repair it- for free- if it's not, after that we will either try to repair it with the closest bits possible or charge you for a new frame.

People expect a frame to last them five or ten years. It is on your face every day and you are probably quite hard on it. It's not going to last that long. if it's lasted five years your lucky... and should have probably had another eye test before now.

I've had my current glasses since 2000 & in Optical years that's considered ancient. The glasses I had before the current ones I kept for 13 years! & in Optical years they were made during the Big Bang!...lol.

There's a reason that I selected the solid Titanium frames for my work glasses: they came with a lifetime anti-corrosion guarantee.

My sweat eats holes in the normal metals used in glasses bows (and why is it that the "stainless steel" frames only have the s'tainless' part in the front, not in the bows, where it touches your skin and corrodes?)

It helps that my prescription hasn't changed noticeably since 1982. (seriously. I keep old glasses around for wearing in community theater productions, and there's hardly a difference.)

Seriously, Im LUCKY if I have my glasses after a YEAR since I tend to lose/break them rather frequently.....

My glasses are about two and a half years old and still fine. I have an old spare pair that really is a lot older, too - the prescription on those is noticeably different, but still much better than nothing.

I probably should get another eye test soon, but I have to concentrate on money for now. My eyes don't change quickly enough for it to be urgent.

I have several pairs that have lasted me for some time. I go to the eye doctor every year, and my prescription hasn't changed noticeably over the last 8 or so years. The only reason I ever got new lenses/frames was to try a new tint for protecting my eyes from light. I now have three that I wear - one clear, for home where the light level's fairly low, one darker (sunglass level for most folks) for working inside office buildings, and one dark for outside.

Even though I'm hard on my glasses, it'll be awhile before I can afford new ones. Mortgage and car payments come first My current pairs are nearly 4 years old, and they're starting to show it. One nose pad is attached with super glue, and the 'arms' have kitty teethmarks on them. Baxter and Sally love to chew on the frames.

You CAN afford new glasses. U.S. law says the opthamologist has to give you a copy of your precription. I go to eyebuydirect.com and get my glasses. Their inventory is very limited, but if you are not picky, (like me) you can get new glasses for Eight Bucks. So when I lose them, or sit on them, or when Mr. Kitty chews on them... big deal! I just buy more.

My frames are a good 9-10 years old. The lenses are newer, I think I've replaced them within the last two years. I actually have a pair of glasses that have only been worn about a half dozen times, because I discovered I don't really care for them. It is going to be a sad day when this pair finally breaks, because I have literally tried on every pair the optometrist offers, and I don't like any of them.

What cracks me up is that people tell these lies, and fully expect you to believe them at their word and not look anything up. Morons.
