I remember once giving a customer the wrong directions to a nearby theme park, and the poor guy wound up in another state. I'm a tad dyslexic, and directions...well, I'm just terrible with them.

That customer backtracked, came into the store, and was none too pleased with me. I explained the situation and apologized, and, thank goodness he was actually pretty decent. He accepted my apology (Yes, people still do that.) and I had a coworker give him the correct directions. I can think of more than a few customers I've had that would demand nothing short of my head mounted on a pike.

Common sense should be like an American Express card - one should never leave home without it.
Should be, but as my mum always liked to tell me, common sense is not so common.

If it were me in the story, I'd probably have assumed I'd made a mistake in driving, and certainly wouldn't have cancelled a perfectly good reservation because of it. What a jumped up little twerp.

and that's why i write down directions if they're long, complicated, or if i think i might forget them

or get them from google maps

and if i get lost... well there's always a gas station right?
Google maps is your friend, especially if you're planning to go out early on a Saturday morning to find yard sales.

Of course, on those rare occasions where I can't find the address we're looking for even after looking at my notepad where I've written down the directions from Google maps, we'll stop at a gas station or convenience store to ask.

Common sense should be like an American Express card - one should never leave home without it.

    ....SCs are smart?
They are, when we are an SC.

This is why I have a GPS. As a ghost hunter, I do travel a bit. And I am not going to get lost.

Guest: you give me that number or there is going to be hell to pay when I get to the office
ROFL @ you being closed by the time he got there.
I can only imagine him ... snarling and dripping with drool from being so angry.

    and that's funny.

did he get anything he wanted, besides his cancellation request?

    Anti-homing pigeon SC`s.

You know, this is why I prefer to use a mapbook or use a website to print out directiosn, or even write down directions from a local, especially when in GK`s neck of the woods. Very confusing Vancouver is.

Thankfully, I`ve got a really good sense of direction when I`ve visited a place before or when I`m using a map.

As far as refunding MR. SC`s gas, I`d tell him to go and `take a jump in the ocean`. (to keep it G-rated for the mods) He`s a grown man, he is on vacation, and he is spending his own money to have a good time. That doesn`t mean that he needs to leave his common sense at home too.

We just see "getting a bit lost" as a bonus tour Found some good bookstores/cafes that way. The way my dad figures it is, we're on vacation so don't have any schedule.

At my hotel, there would have been no excuse for that kind of suckiness. First of all, we have complimentary maps of Denver. One of them is even printed by the hotel chain so it shows locations of all the different brands. All I have to do is point to the yellow dot that represents my hotel and they're set.

Additionally we have two computers in the lobby for guest in case they might need to mapquest.

Okay, I have to ask. So many of these angry phone calls start out with "Dave, I am livid" or "Dave, I am very upset", etc. I'm sure you give your name in your opening spiel, but do so many of your customers really use the whole passive-agressive bit to express their over-entitled displeasure? Just wondering.

Shouldn't gas be $2/gal where you are? And you are on an island? How much gas did he waste? Did he keep on going 40 miles and then realized he was lost? Maybe he wasn't even on the right island?

Yeah, I'm sure the directions given to him were absolutely correct, but he told your coworker he was in the northbound lane of Whatever St. when he was really in the southbound lane, which would of course reverse everything and confuse even the smartest SC.
