Isn't it a crime to waste the time of the police or is that only if you report something that isn't true?

Aside from that, I KNOW extortion is a crime and that's just what those SCs tried to do to you.

That's it. I'm taking the next International flight over there and I'm gonna sit in your bar with a video camera.

This junk HAS to be shared with YouTube.

A part of me would have taken the phone from him and dialed the police and told him to hit SEND anytime.

I want to hug those poor wives.

It makes me wonder what they put up with in their own homes if their husbands act like that out in public. I mean, constant whining, temper tantrums, very likely coming up "short" (hey, they have to compensate somehow).

I have noticed that there is a police station right next to the major shopping centre about a mile hence. I bet that keeps the troublemakers down at least a bit...

One problem... They still got out the door with out paying for their dinner and drinks. So in the end they made a big stink, and ate for free. Depending on how good of actors they were the wives may have been in on it too.

Next time call the cops yourself. The police tend to side on the side that is right, and usually that is the business owner's side. Also, it will insure you get paid.

They only got the money back for the two steaks. They didn't get a refund for anything else. Although I am angry that they got away with that, I'm pleased they never got their way.

It's something about the month of December. Suckiness hits the roof for that month, it doesn't matter where you work.

Wanna know what makes this scene funny???? Playing out the whole scene in your mind with the first 30 seconds of "Down with the sickness" playing over and over again in an endless loop.

Agreed. You were nice to refund the money for the steaks. I just hate seeing SC's get something for nothing. Someone always pays in those situations and it tends to be the business owners and staff. I hope all they got for free later was indigestion.

Still, great story and I'm glad you have a boss with a spine and a brain, it makes this kinda junk easier.

The thing is, the next day when I told my boss about it, he agreed that I had done the right thing in throwing them out. Another manager completely disagreed with me and said I should have given them what they asked for, that way the situation would have been avoided!

Sorry but no. I cannot do that. My parents taught me to always stand up for myself and what I believe in, and they were WRONG. I was not letting them away with it.

or ... the men will get skeered when they realize you're calling their bluff and will shut their pie holes
I agree with calling their bluff. Just make sure that the pestered patron is available and ask if he would like to press charges.

customersruinmylife, tell me these assholes are banned. Your spined manager would be glad to back you. The other one, I don't know about.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

If they behaved this way over a slightly rare steak, can you imagine what would happen if they saw a steak cooked blue.

It's the UK, the offence wording is Wasting Police Time. It's eligible for a fixed Penalty Notice for Disorder, which is essenially an on the spot £80 fine.

CRML, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that, in his bar, you pay when you order and then you get your drinks and food, not paying at the end like in some restaurants. I believe they all order from the bar and then sit out at tables -- there generally isn't any table service other than running the food to them.

So the money was all already collected and taken care of -- they just got money back for their steaks (which I hate, but CRML did say the steaks weren't properly cooked. He did offer to recook them though!)

If that had happened to me I would have told them to F*ck right off.
