  • a phone call

    I seriously dislike having to deal with Customers on the phone. You never know when you are going to get some whacko who asks for something that takes way too much time. A co-worker once told me that a customer wanted her to describe over the phone the boxes of every Banquet brand TV dinner that DIDN'T have corn in it, because they could not eat corn....

    Anyways, Monday night This female customer calls up and asks if "Prairie Farms" Yogurt is still on sale at 10/$5.

    Me: I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it ended on Sunday because Yoplait went on sale and they usually dont put them both on at the same time.
    SC: could you go check and make sure please?
    Me: ok. <puts down phone rolling eyes and checks> Ma'am the Prairie Farms is off sale and now 3/$2.
    SC: Oh thats too bad, Its my favorite brand.
    Me: I understand a lot of people have strong brand loyalty.
    SC: Is there anyways you could let me have it at 10/$5?

    <blinkity>

    oh yes lady I am going to get myself FIRED so you can have your "favorite" yogurt slightly cheaper

    Me: Ma'am I do not have that authority, and I know the only way that they would let you have it at the old price would be if you have a raincheck, and they wont backdate rainchecks.

    SC: <sighs> well thats too bad... it REALLY is my favorite. Goodbye.

    <shakes head>

    I know times are tough, but C'MON!
    Lister: This is Crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
    Cat: You're right. We're Nuts! This is an insane conversation....
    Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it.

    Don't you love people like that?

    I had a similar thing happen. We had a turkey on sale, guy didn't want that turkey. He wanted a turkey that was twice the price of the sale turkey when it wasn't on sale, for the sale price. "I'd want it if you make it this price..."

    But again, they do it because most times they just get to speak with a manager, who will do it. You got lucky, and had one of the few that could take no for an answer! Well, eventually

      16 cents, that's the difference between 10/$5 and 3/$2.... 16 cents a yogurt.... yes, times are badm but you're going to be unable to eat your favorite brand for 16 cents a yogurt difference? when 16 cents avoids you buying the item, you're at a save-money level where something like a yogurt is a luxury, at any price.....

      Sometimes I think people is just convinced they deserve all they want, for free, just because they want it, and they're so "affronted" when told no, that will cut their own nose to spite their face....

        We have most customers, who are wanting the same deals they had in the past. We told them the deals are only for new rentals. Some will not listen, when we say that we have new management and that we have different deals for new rentals

          Very similar situation here last week. i work in the deli at our supermarket, where we have 3 "levels" of prices. Customer orders Brand A (cheapest). We are out until the truck comes the next morning, and I tell her this. So she says "OK, well then give me Brand C (most expensive, something like a $3 per lb difference) and charge me the Brand A price". I explain that I dont have the authority to change the prices and she actually states "Look, I'm in a bad mood, just give me the cheaper price and I wont be a pain in the ass" Does this really work in other places? Threaten a tantrum to get your own way?
          I referred her to my manager. Sometimes I like only being a PT employee

            We get that sometimes. If it isn't is asking for a sale price on a item on currently on sale, it is asking for a discount because because for some stupid reason.

            The only time we might give a custoemr an non sale item for a non sale price is if the sale item is out of stock and only for similar items that are either approved by Corp(problem getting sale items in district/company wide) or the GM/MOD (case-by-case basis). And no, when the cheapest Ice Cream is on sale we will not give you the most expensive for the sale price. Only the next step up.

              I think that counts as a "don't ask, don't get". So long as the client doesn't get sucky with me after I say no, I don't have a problem with them asking.
