  • Entrance gate is up & customer exited throught it

There was a problem with the entrance gate today. It was up in the air & it would not go down after a car entered the garage. It eventually went down but after dealing with this sucky customer.

I was away from the booth on a short break when a customer entered the garage. According to the guidelines I have to follow, I have to leave both gates up when I am away from the booth. This is because Metro lift drops off handicapped passengers, & the drop off is located inside the gargage.

The phone rings inside the booth. I look up, & there is a car at the exit gate.

    Non-paying cusomter: nc
    me: me

nc: "Hi, I was here for less than 10 minutes, & I need to leave to get more paperwork. Do I have to pay for my parking?"

So you parked in the garage, went upstairs to the dept. you had to go to, & were told to turn in more paperwork, which you do not have. Since you did park in the garage, you have to pay.

me: "Yes, you have to pay for your parking. I cannot raise the gate for anyone wanting out for free. Everyone has to pay for their parking inside the building either at the vending machine on the garage level which accepts cash only or at the Parking office on the third floor. I'm sorry, but I cannot raise the gate for you."

I hang up the phone. It rings again. I answer it, & the non-paying customer backs up & exits through the entrance gate, which is still up.

I stop the customer, a female, right outside the booth. I tell her the following information:
[LIST][*]She was told that she has to pay for her parking, but she drove through the opened gate instead[*]She has to pay for her parking[*]She will receive a ticket if she does not. Whenever someone does this or tailgates out, I am to get their license plate number & contact the Parking office.[LIST]
That office will contact campus police who will look up her name & address. Campus police will give the Parking office this information, & a ticket to pay for her parking will be mailed to her.

I tell her I have to write down her license plate number, contact the Parking office, & give them the information

She asked me to make an exception. I told her I could not & that she had to pay for her parking. She asked me to make an exception again. I told her I could not & that she has to pay for her parking. She told me she would be fired from her job if she does not get to work soon. I told her I could not make an exception & that she has to pay. Then she told me this:

"You can give me an exception."
me: "No, I cannot do that."

She tells me she does not want to argue with me. I get her license plate number. She tells me she only has a credit card to pay with. I tell her she has to pay inside the building at the Parking office. She asks me if she can give me her credit card number. No, I will not write down your credit card number. No telling what would happen to me if I did that. She asks me if she can be billed for the parking. I told her that is up to the Parking office. She asks to speak to that office.

I have her come to the booth window while I call the Parking office. "Nancy" answers the phone, & I explain to her the entire situation. She says no she has to pay, & she asks me if she is still there. I said yes. She told me she would speak to her.

The non-paying customer speaks to "Nancy". She tells "Nancy" the following:
    • I am being mean to her
    • That she will return to pay for her parking after getting more information which she does not have & will pay for her parking at that time.
    • That she wants her to make an exception for her as a courtesy (she said this twice)

    Nancy tells her the following:
Parking is not free (she said this twice). The girl says "I understand that. I will pay for my parking after I return with the information I do not have. I just want you to make an exception for me as a courtesy."
"Nancy" tells her that if she decides to return, she has to pay $10.00. $5.00 for not paying the first time, & $5.00 for the second time. The girl says "I have to pay $10.00?"

Then she said "Well, I guess I will not return to this university."

The look on her face was priceless.

So... you managed to get an '... And I'm never shopping her again EVER' at a UNIVERSITY?

That's bonus points right there. Kudos! That someone's scholastic choices, their decision about who they will pin their hopes for the future on, is based on $5.

She told me she would be fired from her job if she does not get to work soon.
So instead of taking the 5 min. to pay for the parking, she wastes 15 arguing. Maybe she should register are the Trump school of Business.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

I hope she's a student already. Or will end up being one anyway. Because my university wouldn't release your transcript and grades if you owed them money. Have some outstanding tickets? Well, that tuition was a very expensive parking lesson, then.
