Junior going on senior, so no worries. But yesh, he was a little freshy. And this newest bunch of freshmen aren't exactly the brightest crayons in the box. They scare me.
I think it's generational. I look on all the freshies in contempt. The worst (in my opinion) are the high-horse activist freshies. I always feel like shouting a good "STFU!" when they chime in during class.

I would suggest using Blue Mana Magic for that instead of Black if you are trying to Tap them out. or Maybe just an old school Icy Manipulator.
I usually go with a blue/white deck with a couple low level green cards that don't require much mana. I've won games without delivering a single blow.

I have to go deal with froshies and other assorted characters in Textbook Hell on this, the first day of classes.

I weep. For those who don't know what classes they're taking, I'm reasonably sure they know not what cooking is.

oh if only I could be so lucky... no, I'm serious, I want to do auditing... if these idiots become accountants I'll be guaranteed work for life

I can give you three bits of advice dealing with college life (or university life in Australia ):

                  1. Make sure you get phone numbers of anyone you get friendly with. You might not see them next lecture/tutorial/class.
                  2. Coffee is not good for late night sessions.
                  3. If you can, get your contact details of your professors/tutors ASAP. Very important.

Awww poor Lupo. Here's hugs and beer from the peeps down under (and get your minds out the gutter peoples )

Although, would it be considered wrong of me to want to hear more stories of Textbook Hell?

And to think that these kids one day could be doctors/lawyers/accountants/teachers/pilots/whathaveyou
I've noticed two links around campus and work (most of us are uni students)

                  1. Those who consider themselves to be a "ladies man" are more likely to end up working in trades such as electrician or the army.
                  2. Those who fall into the above category on some level and are at uni, are either learning a trade such as engineering, or they're learning a language to impress the chicks.

Just what I've noticed, apologies to those who are studying it and enjoying it

                    Closed Means Closed
It nevers fails: fifteen minutes after we close someone pushed their face through the holes in the gate and trys to get us to stop cleaning up so they can eat.

Sorry; we wanna go home. And unless you're an amoeba you're not getting through that gate. I have yet to see someone accomplish that; I'll be sure to put it on Youtube if it happens.

Sure we're rooting for her, if pulling up a cozy chair and throwing some popcorn in the microwave counts as rooting.

Many moons ago*, when I played, I designed a special blue/other deck that wasn't meant to win. It was meant to send my opponant into screaming fits of table-beating rage. It was the ultimate denial deck. It was dubbed by friends, the "No, You're Not" deck.

                      P1: I'm summoning a giant spider
                      P2: No, you're not. <plays instant to uncast spell>
                      P1: I'm blocking your spell!
                      P2: No, you're not. <plays another instant>
                      P1: Grr....Fine. No other cards. I'm done.
P2: No, you're not. <Plays card> All your land is tapped.
                      P1: MGBLFRBL! <foams at the mouth>

I don't remember all the exact cards. I haven't played in years. But gee, that got me a reputation in the local area.

*No, really. Just after The Dark hit shelves. Mid-90s.

                        Well #3 definitely.

Not so worried about 1 or 2.

                        1) I'm expecting to be 10-15 years older than my classmates (I'm 36) so I'll be quite surprised if I have a lot in common with the others.

                        2) coffee is good 247! But seriously, I'm use to late nights and weird hours. I'm only doing a 16 credit hour semester... which, after working at my last job for 13 years, that's not much. (especially considering the times we had to work 12 hour shifts)

(actually there is one person there i'm looking forward to seeing tho. i took classes there over 13 years ago and one of them was karate. haven't seen my teacher in 10 years but he's still there, running the karate club... so that'll be a great stress relief & a good way to stay in shape)

                          Are you open?

I recently went back to university for another degree, and one of the things I discovered was that the cafeteria hated students in my programme.

For some reason, a lot of our senior classes were from 11:30 to 13:00. The cafeteria is open .... from 11:30 to 13:00. So the seniors in our programme couldn't eat lunch at the cafeteria. Which is a pity, because the caf is part of the culinary arts programme at our school, and it's DAMN GOOD! Cheap too.

Aw come on, surely they should open at least as long as the bank does?

(Have you ever noticed that banks have roughly the shortest opening hours of anything on the High Street?)
