  • just because the economy is bad doesnt mean we give our units away

Guest: yea Dave, I saw the rate online doesnt include tax and I like that rate but it will be higher with the tax. I'd like to know if the tax can be waived and if you could sweeten the deal even more by including bikes and a $300 gas rebate

    Me: no ma'am

Guest: but I mean even with the economy the way it is, you wouldnt be willing to work with us a little

Me: not like that, we are required by law to charge taxes and our gas rebate is $50 and we dont even offer that anymore and we never give free bikes

Guest: dont you people want rentals?

Me: yes but that money has to come from somewhere and the owners arent going to pay for all this stuff

Guest: you make it sound as though I am asking for something unreasonable, in this economy, that just shouldnt be....I just cant understand that......other places I talk to are so accomodating but from you the answer is no all around. Do you have a supervisor available?

She told the supervisor she was insulted because I suggested she was being ridiculous and said we lost her business and she was going to tell everyone at her church about us and how inflexible we are....bitch

Asking for... what? $300 gas rebate, and what's no doubt over a thousand dollars in waived tax and free bikes?

No. Not unreasonable at all. By all means, take my PANTS while you're here!

Maybe you could "sweeten the deal" even more by only making me pay half the price, of course waive those federal taxes, and give me enough freebies to make up for the half price I asked for. On second thought, and while I'm at it, can you just not charge me in addition to giving me free stuff?
NO!? Why the fuck not!? Don't you want my business?

      - No ma'am, we only want intelligent people who know how money works.

What the hell is wrong with people? Apparently she's not doing too poorly in the bad economy if she's going on vacation.

Wow, really? That's because you ARE asking for something unreasonable. Several things unreasonable, in fact.

I keep waiting for the client who asks VRS to pay them a salary for coming to stay at the vacation property. That's what they all seem to be building toward, by the time they get all their discounts.

No, ma'am. With the economy the way it is, I'd prefer to keep my job. So no, I'm not giving you free shit.

I can't believe she would be stupid enough to ask for the TAX to be waived!!

Unless a place is having one of those "we pay the tax" sales going on, the TAX is like the one major thing that is completely NON NEGOTIABLE.

And to top it all off she wants $300 in gas vouchers AND free bikes! Greedy much?

You know... asking for free bikes doesn't seem that unreasonable... a lot of hotel's/resorts are throwing in small things like that to get people to come in (and hide the fact that they are cutting other areas, like less shampoo, fewer towels, and reduced selections in breakfast bars). If they have bikes anyway it isn't going to cost anything to give them out included in the rate rather than rent them out (other than lost revenue) while the things they are cutting DO cost money.
Refusing to accept, "I'm sorry, we can't do that" is unreasonable... as is a $300 gas card. Sounds a bit like my guests who use the excuse that the economy is bad and we need to do discounts... then I explain, yes it's doing bad, we do need guests, but we now more than ever need to be able to have each guest be self sufficient in revenue... you don't pay us enough to cover your costs and we will turn you away without hesitation.

Sorry ma'm, we can't do that. Since the economy is so tight, perhaps you shouldn't be vacationing anyway.

I think the general attitude of VR's customers can be summed up in this statement:

"I'm spending so much money on this vacation that I shouldn't have to spend any money on this vacation!"

I'm trying to get over the whole "the economy's bad!"....... yet she's going on "vacation".

Must not be that bad for her if she can afford to go on vacation.
