I don't recall who mentioned it, but my guess is that English was not the guy's first language.
I always had trouble remembering the difference between cebollo and caballo, and between conejo and cojone.
I used to work in a jewelry/gift store, and I was the only one that spoke any Spanish, and a Spanish-only speaker came in looking for a particular piece of a particular series of figurines. I don't remember the details, but I had to take an extra few minutes to be sure I was selling her a rabbit!
