  • When the going gets tough, the tough get surreal....

Moments like these leave me more convinced than ever that reality needs a lot more field testing before it's safe for public consumption.

I'm the night auditor for the downtown location of <local chain of hotels>
    It's about 6:30am, and I just had 2 very odd incidents back-to-back.

First, guest comes out of his room, walks through the lobby, pokes his head out the door, and looks around in a really exaggerated way, kinda like a cartoon character trying to be sneaky. He shrugs, heads back to his room and mentions to me "Sorry, I thought I heard a van."

Right, I'll be sure to alert the authorities.
Hey, GK, whats the hot tips number?

Less than a minute later, a different guest calls the front desk:
    "Where's the nearest restuarant?"
    "Theres a <upper scale-ish franchise> just across the street"
    "What street is it on?"
    "<this street> (same street as <hotel>)
    "But what's the cross-street?"
    "<this cross-street> (same cross-street as <hotel>)
    "how far away is it?
"I dunno, about 110 feet or so."
"but how long will it take to get there?"
"You can walk there in about 30 seconds"
    "but whats the address"
"Look, it's literally right across the street and has giant signs with it's name on them"
    "oh, ok, thanks"
