  • ARE YOU SURE no one's closeby???

I was taking a phone order at the pizza place I work at. A man wanted to pay with his credit card over the phone.
He read off the numbers to me and I QUIETLY repeated them.
In the midst of repeating the numbers for accuracy...
    SC: Is anyone near you??
    Me: What?
SC: Is anyone listening in on our conversation?
Yeah, there's a guy with a little black notebook right across from me .
    Me: No.
SC: Are you sure no one is closeby?

HAHA that made me laugh. I was obviously trying to half-whisper the numbers back to him for accuracy...

Yeah dude that's what the whisper is all about... lol

I could understand his concern. At work, when our drivers perform a service where someone has to pay (i.e. installation of a battery), the drivers have to radio in for credit card payments. We, as dispatchers, can put the driver on a private channel so that no other drivers or people in range of a driver radio can hear the credit card number being read over the radio. However, and this is a BIG however, on the dispatch end, there are more than a dozen folks that can hear the credit card numbers being read. What's the point?

which makes me bring up the point
if you're worried about that kind of thing... why pay with credit card over the phone in the first place?
