Honestly, the only free drink I've every gotten at any restaurant besides water is tea, and then only at Chinese restaurants. I've never even seen SODA given out for free, let alone alcohol.
Even if it comes with the meal, it's not "free"...it's factored into the price.

    SC: No you haven't.
I reject your reality and substitute my own...even if it's dumber than a box of really stupid things with severe blunt force head trauma.

Something similar I have to deal with a lot that drives me CRAZY is when people can't find what they want, and as a cover to their own stupidity (like not being able to find ink under the huge INK sign), insist that it "used to be" where they were looking, or claim that we "constantly" rearrange the store. Neither of which is true.

I've had that problem with senior days. We've done two senior day while I've been there, and I've been there for two years now. Once a year. It was a promotional thing where they got 15% off of their total. Yet we get people who think it's every Wednesday. Then they get all pissy "when did that end? It's always been that way." I asked an older CW and she said there has never been a regular senior day since she's worked there, and she's been with the company for 26 years.

Does anyone work at a place that rewards customers for that?
Nope, but don't forget there's that magical store/pub/whatever called "Everywhere Else" that delights in rewarding customers for their stupidity. XD

When I first started at The Bar.....

SC walks in, and approaches Rockin' Manager at the hostess stand.

SC: "Excuse me, do you have peas and rice? I didn't see it on your menu board."
    RM: "No, we don't."
    SC: "Are you sure?"
    RM: ".....Yes....."
    SC: "You used to."
    RM: "No, we didn't."
    SC: "Are you sure?"
RM: "I've been here since the place opened, and we have never had peas and rice."
SC: "I'm sure you did." (leaves in a huff)

Don't you wish you could come back at SC's like that with:

Yes, and you USED to be able to get an entire meal, plus dessert, for $1.85...BACK IN 1952. What's your point?
(assuming you worked at a place that's been open that long)
I mean really, what does it matter what any store/restaurant USED to do?

Really? In the 40+ years I've been eating at McD's I don't recall ever seeing personal pizzas.
We had them. And I was greatly disturbed when a friend who worked there told me spoiled ones looked like cooked ones. The pizzas were pretty good though.

OLD FART SC: "We've been coming here 30 years, and we've never had a problem getting separate checks before!"
COWORKER: "That's impressive, considering we've only been open 19 years."

Gas *USED* to cost $0.99 a gallon! McDonald's *USED* to sell personal pizzas! Heroin *USED* to be legal!

Those are the things I would probably point out if I were confronted with said comment.

I'm sorry but i totally burst out laughing when I read the customers ever so witty comeback... i'd say it's right up there with "I know you are but what am I"

CRML - Do you think it's possible that the SC's at your old pub ...umm....*followed you* when you moved?

It sure as hell seems like you can't escape them.

I'm liking stories from this pub better than the ones from your old pub.
Haha, they are a completely different class of SC...their I.Q's have dropped about 95%
