Well, it's kinda hard to be afraid of a vamp who drives the Mystery Machine. At least, until you piss him off.Quoth bunnyboy View PostYes, Patricia Briggs has been in talks over getting a Mercy movie deal... hehe...hopefully it'd put Vampires and werewolves back to the scary machines they are.
But sparkly bishie boys don't work well outside anime. Give me lean and mean vamps and totally buff wolves, and you have a happy Ari.
I met her at ConBust, but hadn't read her books yet (that's actually how I discovered her writing
) but she was very nice.
Any day you're looking down at the dirt instead of up at the dirt is a good day.

The ironic part is that there are some Vampire-based book collections now coming out that are moving away from the popular-culture idea that vampires are killed by sunlight and religious icons, or stopped by holy water etc etc. They include Kim Harrison's series that started with Dead Witch Walking and Jeaniene Frost's series that started with Halfway to the Grave. Both are fun reads and I like that each author has updated or changed the usual "rules" for how Vampires (and other "mythical" creatures) operate.Quoth Xarlaxas View PostI'll have you know that Dracula in the original book is quite able to go out during the day, he's just weaker if I recall correctly. I don't think it was until Nosferatu that the whole idea of vampires + sun = death became really popular.
I'm a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi literature, and I've read a fair amount of Vampire/Undead books - even played the "Vampire" role playing game years ago. A very common theme among most of the material is the idea that the older a vampire is, the more powerful he is. The usual explanation is that with that power comes additional abilities and skills, and some degree of immunity to sunlight - ranging from being able to stay awake a bit longer during the day to total immunity.Quoth Broomjockey View PostThat's because it's generally accepted that Dracula is a special case. He's more powerful than your average vampire. Exactly why that is is less agreed upon.
(Of course some authors, such as the ones I mentioned above, skip over that issue altogether by making all vampires immune to sunlight - those do seem to be in the minority though.)Last edited by Alpha Strike; 04-15-2009, 09:11 PM.Be a winner today: Pick a fight with a 4 year old.

I am so happy I don't work at HMV or any place like that. I was so disgusted to find Twlight Merchandise at the little indy comic shop I go to.
Fanpires scare the crud out of me. I heard a story about a 12 year old girl going up to Robert Patterson and asking him to "Bite her". *shudders*
I fully admit to enjoying the books and movies. They are stupid, and horrible, and like someone published fan fiction. But they were entertaining, at least.
Though I did smack a twilighter for daring to say Argeneau Vampires weren't "real vampires". Yes, the Argeneaus aren't dead and they are filled with nanobots. But at least they are well written and don't SPARKLE IN THE SUN! *shakes head*Last edited by hinakiba777; 04-15-2009, 08:58 PM.Hinakiba777- Student of Divinity-Always trying to get laid.
Annoying student=I pay tuition here so I pay your salary!
Desk Worker=I pay tuition here, too. So I guess I pay myself.

And quite unlike Twilight Forks, she does get the tri-cities....well at least fantasy correct.Quoth AriRashkae View PostWell, it's kinda hard to be afraid of a vamp who drives the Mystery Machine. At least, until you piss him off.
