This may or may not be considered an SC, I am a report writer/analyst, so most of my customer's are internal. So this could go under sucky co-workers too I guess.
I am getting bitter an frustrated with the way people request reports. We asked that they fill out a report request form that has everything on it that I need to fill a request.
No-one will fill it out, or they put all of the requirements in a jammed together quasi-intelligible string of sentences in the 'anything else not covered' box.
I had one today that if you took the request at face value, they were looking for an empty spreadsheet. I was soo close to sending it.
If you have someone who does your shopping for you, you give them a fairly detailed list right? You don't just write down 'food'.
Report requests are not too different, if you think of our data elements merchandise, when you ask for a report, you are asking me to fill a basket (the report) with specific merchandise items and or combinations of merchandise items. In the end we mix and mash those merchandise items together to come up with something presentable and logical that can be utilized to make your life better.
When I get a request 90% of the time, my shopping list contains 'Food need Food'.
