Not really a customer per say, but he definitely sucked.
Background, we have a general rule at the hotel (and most hotels have this), there are to be no cell phone (or in person conversations... but this was specifically a cell phone incident) in the hallways after 11pm. If you wish to have a conversation you must either be in the lobby or your room. This is as a courtesy to other guests who can hear you talking in the hall. This is only a loosely enforced rule... in general as long as you are being quiet about it we won't say anything...

... however, if you are this pizza delivery guy, and aren't being quiet, using speaker phone to boot, we will stop you, we will ask you to kindly shut up and stop bothering the guests. The owner was here tonight, so I didn't really pay attention to this delivery guy (we have an unspoken agreement that when he's here, he deals with the problem customers... that way the problem customer can't appeal to a higher power )
    anyway, I hear the following

    m= manager
    sdg= sucky delivery guy

m- I'm sorry sir, but could you keep the conversation down or move to the lobby (he was just barely outside the lobby, so I could hear the conversation clearly)
sdg- why don't you mind your own fucking business!
    me-
m- sir, it is late (11:30ish) and guests are trying to sleep, please, as a common courtesy either keep it down or move into the lobby.
sdg- there's no rule that says that I can't be loud in the hallway.
m- actually sir, yes there is.
sdg- fine, show it to me in writing.
m- we don't have a written copy of the guest rules... the rules are whatever I say they are.
sdg- who the fuck are you to try to tell me what I can and can't do... I don't know about your country (btw, it is worth mentioning, the manager is a US Citizen... so the United States is his country)... but in America we are a free people.
m- and in America the law says that you must follow the rules of the person who's property you are on... this being my property, you will obey my rule to either keep it quiet or move to the lobby.
sdg- there's no way in hell that a (insert racial slur here) like you is the owner, where's the manager?
    m- I am the manager.
sdg- bullshit (leans into lobby and yells at me) Hey desk jockey, can you please get me the email address or phone number for the manager... I need to file a complaint against this employee.
me- sure, the phone number is the same as the hotel's you can ask for (name) or you can email him at (hotel email address)... or you can speak to that nice gentleman standing in front of you.
m- now please, hang up, deliver your pizza, and get out of here and never come back. I will call your boss and let him know you are no longer permitted on this property... if I see you again I will report it to the police as criminal trespass.
sdg- you have no right to...
m- Smiley, give him 5 minutes to deliver his pizza and get out of here, if after 5 minutes he is still here call the police (and he walked off after that)
sdg- (to me) you wouldn't... I'm just doing my job.
me- so am I, you now have 4 minutes 30 seconds

Needless to say... the manager at the pizza store is having a bad night... he got a call from me warning him that my manager was going to call (and of course filing a complaint against the driver myself... seriously, desk jockey... asshole)... he then got a call from my manager... and both of us agree that the manager at the pizza place did not at all sound surprised at either of us calling... we figure he's probably received similar complaints all through the night (this was a new driver... he's one I don't recognize).

Just...wow. Kudos to your boss for keeping a level head. The fact that the pizza boy wasn't immediately kicked out surprises me. No doubt because bossman had some sypathy for the poor patron awaiting hot cheesey goodness.

Was this a franchise? Personally, I think bossman should file a complaint to corporate. Just my two cents.

Funny, a large percent of the time when an SC is told something they don't want to hear, they complain about the ethnicity/country of origin/etc. that the employee MUST be. Like the reason for their woes and the ills of their existence is because the employee is from (insert country here). And they insist on this stupid reasoning even when there's no way in Sam Hill you could tell the employee is from another country! And they insist the employee MUST BE from another country because they're acting 'un-American!'

well... i can understand not kicking him out right away...

cos the person who ordered the pizza still needs his/her pizza ... and it'd suck for them to get shafted just because the delivery guy was an asswipe

Sorry. No one by the name of "desk jockey" works here.

I hope his boss fires him, or at the least, gives him a writeup and disciplinary action. There was no reason at all for him to act like such a boor.

                    Wow what a douche!

That's too bad. Some people like to order pizza while staying in hotels because it's quick and they deliver. People unfamiliar with a city may not want to venture out and ordering pizza may be a good alternative. We even have deals with some of our local pizza places. The delivery guy or gal signs a sheet and after the 10th or 15th sign in (depending on the place) the hotel gets a free pizza.

No doubt your relationship from this pizza place may be strained now as the front desk may be relucant to recommend the place. When hotel guests relay bad experiences at resturants to me, I usually will not recommend the place if it happens frequently. Or if I receive bad service/poor food at a local place, I will not recommend it to guests either.

Most days I don't have faith in Americans either, because of idiots like that pizza guy, or fellow country-people who travel abroad, act like douches, and cause nice people like myself to be branded "ugly Americans."

I'm pretty sure there's assholes in every country that do this. Needless to say, I hate all people equally.

This is a situation where I would think it'd be reasonable for the delivery guy to be stiffed a tip. Just too bad the hotel guest did not know anything about what was going on here.

Or better yet, just tip him with a combination of pennies and Chuck E. Cheese tokens.

no, it's a local place. the chains, while offering lower quality pizza, do have better delivery drivers because they actually have training protocols in place for delivering to hotels... the place that this guy was from very rarely delivers to hotels so they've never trained their employees on what typical hotel policies are.

to give the delivery guy some credit... if the manager didn't tell you he was a manager, you'd probably never know it. He's got the attitude of "damnit, I did NOT remortgage my home to pay the down payment on this place to wear the blue shirt and tie and an ugly name badge saying 'manager' on it". So, on most days he just wears business casual but it's not unusual for him to wear shorts and a t-shirt with flip flops... that said after he's told the guy that he's the manager, and I've told the guy he's the manager... and the fact that it would be a reasonable request even for a guest to make... it doesn't garner much support for the delivery guy's case.
