Not really a customer per say, but he definitely sucked.
Background, we have a general rule at the hotel (and most hotels have this), there are to be no cell phone (or in person conversations... but this was specifically a cell phone incident) in the hallways after 11pm. If you wish to have a conversation you must either be in the lobby or your room. This is as a courtesy to other guests who can hear you talking in the hall. This is only a loosely enforced rule... in general as long as you are being quiet about it we won't say anything...
... however, if you are this pizza delivery guy, and aren't being quiet, using speaker phone to boot, we will stop you, we will ask you to kindly shut up and stop bothering the guests. The owner was here tonight, so I didn't really pay attention to this delivery guy (we have an unspoken agreement that when he's here, he deals with the problem customers... that way the problem customer can't appeal to a higher power
)
anyway, I hear the following
m= manager
sdg= sucky delivery guy
m- I'm sorry sir, but could you keep the conversation down or move to the lobby (he was just barely outside the lobby, so I could hear the conversation clearly)
sdg- why don't you mind your own fucking business!
me-
m- sir, it is late (11:30ish) and guests are trying to sleep, please, as a common courtesy either keep it down or move into the lobby.
sdg- there's no rule that says that I can't be loud in the hallway.
m- actually sir, yes there is.
sdg- fine, show it to me in writing.
m- we don't have a written copy of the guest rules... the rules are whatever I say they are.
sdg- who the fuck are you to try to tell me what I can and can't do... I don't know about your country (btw, it is worth mentioning, the manager is a US Citizen... so the United States is his country)... but in America we are a free people.
m- and in America the law says that you must follow the rules of the person who's property you are on... this being my property, you will obey my rule to either keep it quiet or move to the lobby.
sdg- there's no way in hell that a (insert racial slur here) like you is the owner, where's the manager?
m- I am the manager.
sdg- bullshit (leans into lobby and yells at me) Hey desk jockey, can you please get me the email address or phone number for the manager... I need to file a complaint against this employee.
me- sure, the phone number is the same as the hotel's you can ask for (name) or you can email him at (hotel email address)... or you can speak to that nice gentleman standing in front of you.
m- now please, hang up, deliver your pizza, and get out of here and never come back. I will call your boss and let him know you are no longer permitted on this property... if I see you again I will report it to the police as criminal trespass.
sdg- you have no right to...
m- Smiley, give him 5 minutes to deliver his pizza and get out of here, if after 5 minutes he is still here call the police (and he walked off after that)
sdg- (to me) you wouldn't... I'm just doing my job.
me- so am I, you now have 4 minutes 30 seconds
Needless to say... the manager at the pizza store is having a bad night... he got a call from me warning him that my manager was going to call (and of course filing a complaint against the driver myself... seriously, desk jockey... asshole)... he then got a call from my manager... and both of us agree that the manager at the pizza place did not at all sound surprised at either of us calling... we figure he's probably received similar complaints all through the night (this was a new driver... he's one I don't recognize).
