  • Were saying "Hi" makes me a racist. (Long and some language)

I was cleaning up a section of the store, when I saw these two teens, a boy and a girl, rumaging through the section. They kept staring at me, which means they're either up to something or need help. I said "hi" to them, so if they needed help, they'd know I was there to give them a hand. If they were up to something, they know I was there to see what they were up to.

The girl reacted by yelling at me. "What you watchin' me for? I gots money! I'm gonna pay for dis stuff!" I said nothing, and continued cleaning. Now I know that they're up to something, so I know to watch them while I clean.

And let me remind you, all I did to them was say "Hi".

When I didn't give her the fight she was looking for, she then got right in my face, screaming "Hey, you racist cracker! What you watchin' me for? You just watchin' me 'cuz I'm black, that's all! You're racist! What's you're name, you racist bitch?!? What's your fuckin' name?!?!?!?"

It was all I could do to not punch her square in the jaw. Not only was she accusing me of racisim, she was invading my personal space in the one of worst ways possible, getting no more than two inches from my face and screaming at the top of her lungs. Instead of resorting to violence, however, I turned to face her, looked her dead in the eye, and said "My name is ShinyKitsune, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't yell in my face."

Not my best moment, I admit, but I managed to scare a sufficcient amount of piss out of her to get her to back off. She and her guy went off to anouther section of the store, where the MOD, who heard her yelling, started watching her. (Why she didn't kick her out of the store then and there, after hearing her call me a "racist cracker", is beyond me. Would have saved a lot of trouble. )

    But wait, there's more!

Not long after that, I had to go on the register, and as I'm ringing out a customer, I hear MOD yell "Wait right there!", followed by the same two kids running out the door, and the boy taking a handfull of stolen merchandise from his shopping bag and throwing it in MOD's direction. MOD chased them through the parking lot, attempting to see them get in a car and get the licence number, but she lost them at some point when they split up. The cops were called, a report was filed, and if they ever decide to come back, we've got quite a few witnesses to get them arrested.

And to imagine, they might not have even been watched if they hadn't pulled out the race card.

Wow, she learned early that pitching a fit like that often gets everyone in the "I've got to ptove I'm not racist so I will back away and let her do whatever she wants" mode.
Too bad most peoople don't inderstand that the person screaming like that usually is making the scene to cover up something they know they got caught dong.

That's terrible that she got in your face like that. Too bad the manager didn't kick her out right then and, like you said, saved the trouble of chasing them around later A person who would threaten an employee is surely not going to be a good customer.

IMO, I think she was only doing that to cause a diversion. If she was that innocent, she wouldn't be up in your face like that.

Its only the people who have a guilty consicence who resort to yelling, screaming and making you feel like crap to hide that they were going to steal.

It's beyond me how someone thinks that it's still a good idea to try to sneak merchandise out of the store after having made a huge scene that guarantees everyone will take notice of you.

You know, last time I checked, "cracker" is a racist comment for a white person.

I guess that girl never heard of the phrase "pot calling the kettle black", has she?
The customer is not always right. Most of the time, the customer is a clueless moron. If this offends you, you are this moron.

Good point. But they did the (not-so-sneaky) sneaking after her little outburst so I guess they weren't that smart.

                      well that's obvious.

She had to start a fight with you because
                      1) she WAS going to steal - she was just "offended" because she thought you caught her.

                      2) You're a "racist" because she was planning on stealing. Basically, she was trying intimidate you into backing away from her, so you won't catch her stealing... and of course if she can get the other customers or employees on their side against you, it'll make it easier for her to get away with stealing.

plus, by pretending you're a racist she might feel more entitled to steal what she can from the evil store.

Not everywhere. In Florida, it's the local equivalent to a cowboy.

But yeah, the race card is a common tactic when a shoplifter is a different ethnicity from the employee that are trying to shake off. A variant on this is when the two are the same ethnicity, and the employee doesn't budge. Then you get phrases like "Tio Cana" and "House N*****" thrown around.

"cracker" comes from plantation owners and workers that whipped the slaves if they misbehaved or didn't produce enough crop. the word "whipper-snapper" also originates from this also.
