I would REALLY recomend checking to see if it's a Besttec power supply in there and, if it is, changeing it to jeantec or somthing. The Bestec power supply WILL blow and it WILL take out the motherboard along with other components when it does.

I don't really care what brand a computer is, as long as it works. I've had clone machines, a used Packard Bell, a home-built machine. Just retired my HP desktop, replaced it with an e-Machines T-series I bought used from a friend for $50, and my Dell laptop. The DVD-burner on the e-Machines doesn't write anymore, so I'll throw a new burner in it, bump up the memory, and I'll have a nice little game-machine for under $150.

Seen a lot of the T-series emachines towers that have died due to this. The garbage PSU in those will take out the motherboard, and sometimes the processor, any accessory cards, and any optical drives attached.

It's not just the T-Series, it's any of them that use bestec power supply units. The same can be said for the Compaq units that had them. We have a method of them now. If a customer comes in with a Bestec thats making an odd noise, we advise them that the PSU could be giving notice and what could happen IF the computer is out of warrenty. If it's in warrenty, because of company policy there isn't a damn thing we can do

I have a white aspire 1 netbook, tiny screen and all ... I use it when I am on the road and I dont want to lug around a whonking huge 17" diagonal monster laptop from hell ... granted my laptop is customized for gaming but if all i need is email and a little light surfing, and maybe a run at open office for something, why lug around 4 kilos of laptop.

Although I was at a rest area sucking up the free wifi looking for a map, some guy giggled and I couldnt resist.... I reached in my window, grabbed Socrates [my gaming laptop] popped him open and turned him on

Funny thing is that eMachines DO have a quirk about them. if the PSU blows, it WILL blow the motherboard.

That being said, I'm typing this on a 5-year old emachines laptop, still going strong.
