  • "take your class outside!" snips the sc

First, let me introduce to you to the sc, "Bob". We all know he's name, mostly from the complaint forms he turns in. Also, "Bob" is not his real name. So, Bob complains a lot.

Second, the library has a lot of classes, like for computer, knitting, decorating cakes, yoga. We also have weekly classes of conversational "x", like "conversational Hindi," "conversational English". Wed. is "conversational German." The conversational classes are help on the first floor.

So Wed., the class is going on when everyone starts to hear someone nearby having a loud conversation on his cell. One of the librarians involved with the class goes to him and asks him if he can lower his voice or take the call somewhere else in the library or outside. Of course he wants to know why, and he was told it was interrupting the class.

Bob: Well then, you should take the class outside!!!!

Then he starts an arguement with the main librarian who is holding the class (um, not the main librarian, like the manager, just the one doing most of the teaching the German) which involves a lot of finger-pointing in each others' face.

Bob gets banned for the day
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

Talking loudly on a cell-phone in a library should be an obvious right?? Seems like talking loudly on a cell phone in a library/bookstore/quiet public place where people don't want to hear it usually equals:

"It is now obvious that I am much MUCH more important than any of you and I don't care that this is an inappropriate place to talk because I'm so very speshul."

          Or something like that

Yeah, you would think so, right? Unfortunately, the library has turned into a place where people stand around and blab, talk on their cell phones (even though we have signs all over the place, but we all know no one reads signs until they're pointed out and even then ...), leave their kids as a free babysitting service, eat their meals (again, not allowed), use the public rest rooms as a free bathing facility ... I could go on and on.

The library is no longer a quiet place to go so you can read and study and I continually mourn that loss.

                        Nice.

I wish my library was as nice as yours! I'm in a large city and we don't have half the classes yours offers.

I totally agree with that.....funny thing is though, that whenever I'm chatting online and tell the other person that one of my jobs is at a public library, they nearly always comment on how the library must be a "quiet, calm, peaceful place to work".

                            Why only one day?

If he does this crap all the time, why not kick his ass out for good?

Our local library doesn't even stop people on their phones any more, they just have signs posted asking "keep your cell conversations short please"
