  • Well, I've Finally Been Threatened

Where I work I am required to go through a certain number of steps before I can do what the customer is asking for. (usually a replacement). there is an announcement at the beginning of every call asking customers not to be on the device that is giving them issues, but I think most people here know how good scs are at listening to this announcement.
This genius decided to call from his device and refused to go through the process I am required to go through. (I'd like to not have to sometimes, but the policy is pretty rigid. My guess is for legal reasons.)

The customer kept threatening to cancel and file a lawsuit. When closing the call and offering anything else, he threatened to find where I was at after saying something to the effect of don't start with me and called me an asshole. I don't know how seriously I should take this, but just in case, I passed it to my supervisor. Is there anything else I should do? I've been threatened with being fired or sued by customers several times at this point but no threat until today to "find where I'm at."

You did the right thing. You gave the information to your super. Don't worry about that numbnuts, though. He can't do anything.

I had a veiled threat on my life made when I was at the call center. You don't have much to worry about, SCs don't know where you are when they call and even if they ask you're smart to just give a general idea, "I'm in illinois sir" or whatever so long as it doesn't narrow it down enough to find you.

On a comical note, I did have one guy go off on me and threatened to hunt me down, regardless of which state I was in (he said it in a way that made it seem a very empty threat).

Why is this comical? Well he could have hunted across all the states in the union but he would never have found me because I was in Canada.

We had to take these threats seriously when I worked at (government agency). I've had to call the boys in black a couple times

"Sir, please allow me to remind you that these calls are recorded and your threat, along with your personal information, will now be forwarded to your local police department."

Shuts them up every time. Sometimes it even gets them to stop being an ass and work with you.

            The police are coming

At one time I worked in a call center. I was supervising my team while an ad for a free bible was running on TV. I had several call takers complaining that one man kept calling in and asking what color panties they were wearing. I told the team to raise their hands when he called in again.
A hand went up and I cut in on the call. I informed the knucklehead that we appreciated his calling so many times on our 800 number and that we now had his phone number and were sending the police to his house. At that time we had no such technology but the bluff worked and he never called back.

One call centre I briefly worked at had a policy on people who threatened us with a lawsuite.

              Immediately stop helping them.
Inform them that all future converstations must be through the corporate legal team.
              Give them Legal's contact info.
              Hang up.
Put a note on their account that they threated with legal action, and are not to be assisted until Legal sign off.

That place was sucky to work at for a number of reasons (hours, payrate and manglers), but having to deal with sue-happy SCs was not one of them.
