I'd have told her to use PayPal.

I know lots of people hate it, but if you want to transfer money from one place to another, and it doesn't go over the limit for personal acceptance with PayPal, it's completely and utterly free, and you can do everything from the comfort of your home.

I've sent money to my mom this way. And my boyfriend, come to think of it.
