Hello once again from the land of darkness that is {supermarket}. I've posted a couple times, but just to remind all of you wonderful scowling faces, I work in a meat/seafood Department for a decently known supermarket (don't Count on Us). Well recently, the meat department manager (he does scheduling for both meat and seafood) has decided to try me out on opening the service seafood case. If you don't know what a service seafood case is, think of what a deli counter at any supermarket looks like, but full of seafood.
I do like opening the case, mainly because i get out of work at 4:30pm instead of 10pm. The only sucky part is that I end up smelling of fish all day. Anyhoo, on with the show....
Whoever at corporate decided "Hey, why don't we have the guy who is setting the seafood case come in at the same time we want it to be open?" please go to the doctor to see what can be done about your cranial-anal fusion.
And to my customers this morning (as soon as I got in), WHY are you shopping for freaking FISH at 8am on a sunny Saturday morning? Yes, I like to get my shopping done early, but come on, do you really need to get fish that early? At least give me about 2 hours to, ya know, get the case filled with all the varieties of seafood that I have before you come asking for fish. (Every night we have to take the fish out of the case and bag it up just so the morning guy can turn around and put it back in the case.)
Unfortunately, another {supermarket} store that was about 6-10 miles away just closed its doors due to lack of profit/too much violence in the area, and we are now getting most of its customers. Yet, management doesn't feel that we are in any need of additional meat clerks (or clerks for other departments besides mine). Now try to explain how you want us to keep these customers shopping at our store if we can't service them right? I have already been yelled at quite a few times because no one is helping this poor li'l old SC who just walked up to the case (even though there are about 5 people ahead of you)! Management, think about this: If we made as much money on a Wednesday as we used to make on Saturdays before the other store closed, we need some more help to get more product out for SC's to drool over!
Also, what is the deal with SC's throwing pack after pack of meat all over the case? Don't ya'll realize that the less time I have to spend cleaning up after you is more time the I can spend making sure we actually have enough product for your gaping maws of doom!!!!
Sorry about the length, this week has been kinda stressful. Mainly due to one of my co-employees who I'll post about in Cussing Out Coworkers later.
