Really nice costume...I'll keep an eye out for it at the con....(lots of lions, but that's the only one with the blue splotches under the eyes, I'm sure)

Also, I will be doing commissions of art in sketchbooks at the con. I love it when the customer gives me SOME details, or even referance, to use in my illo. I've never had anyone say they DIDN'T like the result, even if it was different from what other artists have done. (no one stands by while I draw, since I have a list, and do my work in order of when it was taken. I may have 8 sketchbooks lined up at my table, or 6 badges I'm working on at one time.)

Mostly, the customers want lots of artists to draw their character to see what they put into it...they don't want carbon copies of the same work.
    I no longer fear HELL.
    I work in RETAIL.

I can't say I've seen too many suits... (Despite one of my roommates requests, I've still yet to go to the local Con that comes every novemberish... It's literaly within walking distance of my apartment.)
      Midwest Fur Fest? Good convention!

Yup, my experience with customers has mostly been good, by and large they're happy to give me basic guidelines and references and let me work. This guy is one of a small number that are just incredibly anal, and he's been the worst so far, as far as being picky goes. Though there was the guy who had NO reference art, but couldn't describe what he wanted... I ended up having 40 pages worth of IM discussion and a whole heap of sketches before we finally got it hammered out!

Ok, Spark, I saw the suit at the con, and I have to say, it looked good to me.
Here's a picture from the fursuit parade (No, not my shot. Haven't looked to see if I got it on my camera or not...)

Holy hell... and I thought we'd be the kind of folks who knew how to treat others well, considering all the crap we've been through.

But, then again, I suppose being a cross-section of the population, there's bound to be idiots.

Who was this lion? Being a fairly small community, if people knew what kind of person he was, maybe having him get turned away a few times with the reasons being spelled out for him might get him to change his ways.

            Edited to add:

Also, this was the topic that finally got me to update my av and title. I've seen some other posts here where the views on us furries weren't quite the best, but at this point, I think what I've said has made it clear enough that I'm one of 'them', so... yeah, it's out there now.

Ben the Furry would just like to point out that this guy will never be happy with what you give him.

It's just that simple. It's like getting a tattoo - yours never looks as cool as everyone else's. (Except mine, which is awesome.)

Your customer discovered that the picture in his head didn't look as sparkly in real life as it he thought it did when he was making it up, but he'll never put his finger on exactly what's wrong. What's wrong is that the design he imagined isn't as interesting to him in real life as it is in his mind. Probably a bit of the uncanny valley thing going on, there.

I would say: do not offer to do repairs and alterations. If you do, bill him for them. (Hey, your money, your time, your resources, and I don't work for free either.) Where I work, if we can provide documented evidence that we did a job according to the specifications of the customer, and the customer hems and haws and wants a discount because they don't like the result, tough beans. No discounts or refunds for jobs performed according to customer spec. (Otherwise, EVERY customer would hem and haw.)

Wow, that's a great costume! Pity it's such an ass gonna be wearing it.
I'm reminded of the last Narnian Chronicles book...

                Is this guy's name Puzzle?

I'm not afraid to state that I, as a child, thought that I would make a really good tiger. Or lion. Or bear.

Now that I'm an adult, I do make a rather good lion. Or Tiger. But not a bear. Generally speaking, "bears" think I'd be a good bear, but I'm most certainly not. I fully admit to manscaping.

As a second note: if this guy is Bitchy Mcbitcherson about a Lion costume that he CUSTOM ORDERED and is going to be so fucking otaku over the details, there is a simple, easy methodology to it.

"Alterations from final design are 10% of total cost."
Hell, we always built a 10% cost increase into any project changes at my last job, I don't see why a costume should be any different.
