    Holy f***.

Glad your husband is ok. And may a thousand rabid fire-ants infest the briefs of the carjacker scum, and may the only liquid available be hydrochloric acid.
Happiness is the exercise of vital powers along lines of excellence in a life affording you scope.

Yegods that must have been nervewracking!

We can't get pizza delivered to our address because some thug killed a pizza driver for his cash about 5 years ago. They'll deliver a block away, which baffles me, but not here.

As an aside, if I used my car for work purposes, I'd definitely look into an insurance plan with a deductable rather less than $1000, and probably get it if the premium didn't go up to drastically. When my mom was still paying off her car, she paid an extra $20-something a month to go from $1000 to $500. Well worth it.

It was horrible to hear that happened. I hope you are both ok, and that they catch-up with that asswipe criminal soon!

Delivering pizza is more dangerous than being a cop. Probably because they go to the exact same places but cops get bullet proof vests, guns, and backup. While Pizza guys just have cash.
I agree, despite the statistics that say driving a cab is more dangerous than police work or anything else, i firmly believe pizza delivery is. As a cab driver, i didn't have to get out of the vehicle if i didn't want to, i didn't have to let anyone in that i didn't want to, i don't have to stop there if i don't feel safe, or i can do things to make it safer like not pulling into the drive (tough if you have to walk out to my cab), and i have a connection with my dispatch (phone, radio or computer with panic button, depending on the company). Pizza, no back up, and you have to get out of the vehicle. Yeah, done both, i'd take the cab over the pizza, and these days i just deliver newspapers.

Thanks to God you are both safe and unharmed, that's scary.

I'd never take a job like that because of those situations. The guy who did it is a real piece of work. I mean really, you can't come up with any better scheme than robbing poor pizza guys at gunpoint?

Hopefully they catch him and he gets a decent sentence.

I'm glad you and your husband are both okay. That must've been terrifying.

Very wise to get the locks changed, I'm glad the landlord, police and the witness are all on your side and helping you out. Let's hope they catch the bastard before he pulls this on anyone else.

BoringscreennameI am very glad and relieved that your hubby is OK. a some lost property is OK compared to the ulitmate price we drivers sometimes pay.

and jerkface11 please remember that we as drivers are not allowed to carry ANY thing that could be a weapon or used as a weapon.

the only "legal" defence we are allowed to have/do is to hand over everything, pizza cash car phone, drop trou and take it up the brown tunnel hoping a lead and copper slug, a tire iron, or the trunk of our car is not making its way to us.

on the site Tip the Pizza Guy, one of the regular posters started a thread listing news stories from around the country (or at least the ones that made the news) of driver robberies, deaths, beatings, etc titled Violent Crimes Against Pizza & Delivery People. since March of THIS year there are about 300 news stores in this thread.

Yes the insurance deductible is crazy. Fortunately my husband realized this and once we get a new car plus he gets a new job, we're switching companies and getting a better plan.

He can't work as a taxi driver because of the hours I work, and we have a 10 month old son and we don't have any family nearby who could baby-sit so that's out of the question. He's hoping to find a a regular 9-5 job with set hours and an hourly wage.

His now former job isn't being very helpful. We asked his boss about getting back the money that was stolen, and he said he would contact Corporate and see what they say. He has yet to call hem and my husband is supposed to get his final check tomorrow so who knows if we'll get that money back.

We had quite the time getting the rental car. My husband's wallet was stolen which had his license and SS Card in it. Enterprise refused to give us the rental car because he didn't have his actual license, he did have a photocopy of his license and SS card which wasn't good enough.

So we went about getting him a new license and discovered we couldn't because he couldn't find his birth certificate. So we were going to request it from our local office, but we couldn't we had to go to the city he was born in to get it. Which was half an hour away. And we couldn't find a ride down there, or for anyone to even get his birth certificate and bring it to us even though we offered to reimburse them for all the costs. Oh yeah and the insurance company refused to help us out there either because they "aren't authorized to give people rides." So we had to spend $120 that we really couldn't afford to get a ride down to the city he was born in, get his birth certificate, new social security card and license, then we had Enterprise pick us up from there. It was a huge hassle, but we might wind up getting reimbursed through insurance but I'm not holding my breath.

We also had problems with the towing company. Our insurance company wanted the car released to them, so we asked the towing company what we needed to do, to make that happen. They said nothing, and that they would take care of it. Apparently their employee was mistaken because when the insurance guy went to pick it up they refused to release it to him.

There is good in it all though, I still have my income coming in and we'll be tight on money for awhile and have to do some serious creative juggling but we'll be ok. We also jus stocked up on groceries and basic necessities the day before this happened. We can also both sell plasma for extra cash and we live in a big city with tons of jobs and temp agencies so I'm sure we'll be back on our feet in no time.

he will NEVER see any of the stolen money. and to boot they may ask him to REPAY his part of the bank that was stolen.

I hope for his sake that he kept his tips seperate or worked for a company that allowed him to make money drops.

I'm glad you're both safe and sound now.

One day at a time with this kind of crap - look into getting a safe deposit box for BC's, SSN cards and such. Once he's hired again.

                        Hugs and tequila,

I didnt see anyone mention this.

The social security card? That was taken right?

Keep an eye on his credit reports, because the guy who stole it could try to steal your husband's identity, or he could sell it and a bunch of people could try to steal his identity.

You should never carry your SS card on you. It's best to keep it locked up in a safe place such as a safety deposit box in a bank.

When he got a new card, did they give him a new SS number, or just a new copy of the card?

*hugs to boringscreenname and hubby* I'd say to fight the company if you can.

Please contact social security and get a fraud alert placed on the number/a new number if you haven't done so already. I assume that the DL is already taken care of (old one was invalidated)?

Yes, get a safe deposit box for all important stuff.

                                A few tips:

                                1) If your husband needs therapy to deal with the trauma (I'd be scared $hitless), it may be covered by workmen's comp.
                                2) You may want to talk to a lawyer about all this, such as getting your deductible covered. This whole loss was clearly due to the pizza delivery; it was not just a normal robbery. Since it happened on the job, that may change his former employer's liability. A workmen's comp lawyer should be able to answer questions there, and they all work on a percentage of recovery, which means talking to one is free.
                                3) I protect my birth certificate by owning several copies, and keeping one of them (along w/ my SS card, insurance policies, car title, mortgage, etc.) in one of those $15 fireproof boxes from Wal-Mart. Safety deposit boxes are just too expensive to just keep replaceable papers in.
