  • Customer Called After Closing For Emergency Meat

Yesterday, after closing, a customer called wanting to know if we had a certain meat done a certain way. I went and found the meat and let the customer know. He wanted to know if we had a lot of packages. I told him that I would count them, which I did, and I told him how many we had at the time.

The customer mentioned that he needed the meat for someone that was on a strict diet and he mentioned that it was an emergency. He wanted to know if night crew could let him purchase the meat and I transferred the call to the night crew manager and let him take care of it.

This is a good example of why I didn't answer the phone after closing when I worked retail.

And what kind of strict diet requires meat and is an after hours emergency?

....fail to plan on your part....

Which makes me wonder: what kind of meat was it?

It was 90% fat free hamburger meat. He needed the kind that was already shaped into patties.

I myself have been on the all cheeseburger diet.
It works as well as one would expect.

"Emergency Meat" would be a good name for a rock band.

If someone told me they had a "meat emergency" I wouldn't know whether the guy broke his, or a woman needed condoms.

Hamburger shaped patties never would've crossed my mind.

People fail to understand the word EMERGENCY. Is someone going to die or suffer harm if I don't do X by X time? I'm not in medicine, but I think that could wait until the am.

We had a young girl come in crying about needing her baby's medicine at 9:50 on a Sunday night when I was still in retail. The perscription was recieved on Thursday and she begged and pleaded that we, who a) do not have the key and b) cannot legally despense the perscription to "just open it up and get it". She went on and on about how serious it was, so we got the Pharmacy manger to come in and to it and it was just... cough medicine.

Call me cold-hearted, but I don't take people's "emergencies' seriously anymore.

I would also guess that the patties were also either .25 or .33 pounds per patty? Portion control =)

Though to be honest, 85% tastes better ... shrinks a touch more if you cook it too hot and too fast.

But then again, that beggars the quote <say it with me now ...>

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part

For medicine emergencies they can go to the emergency room and get some. One of my coworkers had to do that for his kids asthma medicine.

90% free actually also means contains 10% of the stuff you're trying to avoid. Special diet? I can only assume this was an attempt to avoid fat. Sounds like a pretty poor attempt to me.

An emergency. Heh. Why do I get the feeling that they just wanted to be a 'speshul snowflake'?
