  • Self help books don't work, apparently (language)

This is me ---> And I was seriously just thinking about how lucky I am that I don't get too many SC's... should have knocked on wood.

This middle-aged guy comes in who bought a, get this, anger management self help book from me last week (remember that). He has done reading is and wants to trade it in (we do cash and trade for books). Unfortunately, the book he bought now has obvious water damage which eventually equals mold which equals we don't want the book anymore thanks but no thanks.

    Me:
OFGWIASAMWIPWHHAMI: Old fat guy who is as short as me which is probably why he has anger management issues (Okay, just OG )

Me: Sorry sir, I can't use this book because it has water damage.
OG: *getting super angry really fast* What!!! It was like that when I bought it!
Me: (I did at first think he was joking because this was kind of silly... anger management book buying guy getting angry) Er... well, we don't sell books that are water damaged.
OG: I can't believe this!!!! I bought this here from you! It's not water damaged!!!
Me: Yes and I remember the condition of the book when I sold it and it was not like this.

OG face is RED at this point. I could not believe what he did... he THREW the book at me! Luckily he is a terrible aim and it kind of glanced off my shoulder. I kind of lost it too. I picked up the book and threw it, not at him because I don't need an assault charge tyvm, but towards the door.

Me: You need to take your fucking book back and read it again because it OBVIOUSLY didn't work the first time! Get the fuck out of my store!

OG gets even REDDER and I really thought he would pop. That would be awesome except for there was probably like 50 years of McDonalds grease in his arteries and I would have had to clean it. Instead, he starts ranting and cursing incoherently. He picks up another book and I'm a little worried that he is going to try to throw more things at me so I get my Can O' Pepper out and start to come around the counter. Luckily, he turns and storms out of the store, purposefully knocking several books off of the easels on the way out.

Never in my life has a customer ever thrown something at me out of malice (except money of course). Anyone else?

The second the threw the book you should have been on the line with the cops. Send his @$$ to jail.

I've only ever had drunk people throw fire crackers at me in the parking lot. They weren't angry though.

I would have loved to! Fortunately he ran away without threatening me any more and I think he will never be in here again. That's the second best scenario.

That's assault, brutha! But at least it was, uh, friendly fire?

Naw, he dropped it along with the other books he knocked over He also did pick up the book he originally threw at me when he left, so perhaps he did want to read it again...

I love the way you handled yourself. You don't have to be nice back to people who aren't nice to you. Well done
