    In the future for this situation, tell the 'parent' (I'm using that term loosely) "Fine, we'll just have the kid arrested for shoplifting--and YOU for contributing to the delinquency."

      I had a guy get right into my face once after I had told his kids not to play with the motorized carts as they are for persons with disabilities.

      Of course he was "right there" the whole time when I had spoken with them. I guess he borrowed Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.
