  • I Want My Seafood Now

The other day, a customer came up to the service desk, mentioned that the seafood department had a sign that it was closed until a certain time, and wanted to know if the sign was true. I paged the seafood employee to call the desk and when I asked him about the sign, he mentioned that it was true and he'd just gone on his paid break.

I told the customer what the seafood employee had said and she wasn't happy that she had to wait. I paged for customer assistance in seafood mainly to get her to stop complaining.

Later, I explained to the seafood employee that the customer wouldn't wait. Luckily, he was pretty understanding.

What really stinks is that management didn't have a backup to cover that counter so it wouldn't have to be closed.

Stores exist to make a profit, they do that by providing goods and services to customers. They can't make a profit if they can't sell their goods. By having the counter closed no-one wins.

In a sense stores do exist for the customer, but there is a huge difference between being a 'good' customer and an SC. It only takes a couple of really bad customers to put a huge dink in a business's efficiency ratio.

What i meant was for her specifically. If for some reason (payroll, call-outs, etc) an uncovered break had to be taken versus not having anyone there for the entire shift, they made the product as available as possible. They have to schedule it as best they can not just for Mrs. I Want My Seafood.
