  • Phone Card

So the other day, I receive a call from a store across the city. They want to know if the person with the operator's numbers are still there (we have a nice book that lists the operator numbers) so I tell them they went home. So she asks me if it's possible to sell a phone card without the bottom half of it.

The bottom half contains the magnetic strip and the code to enter into the phones. To sell a card, you need the bar code and the magnetic strip. You can reload certain cards without the bar code, but you still need the magnetic strip. So there's no possible way to do it without the bottom half.

The customer was throwing a fit that loss prevention had to get involved.

...Were they trying to redeem a phone card w/o the bottom half and claiming it was sold to them that way? or Trying to buy it like that??

I've seen that before...on the ones we sold, you had to scan the bar code for the item on top, and then scan the activation code on the bottom half. At least twice while working at the Bullseye people tried to complain we sold them just the top half of the card. It's impossible to ring up that way. The computer will not continue until it has both halves of a card scanned.

And they NEVER had the receipt for it either...

They either wanted an exchange for another card so they could have the bottom half. It's impossible for us to sell them without the bottom half so either they dropped it or they were trying to scam us.
