It's been a while. Mostly, patrons here are very nice, and I'm a page, so I don't have to be around when they're not. This was different.
Someone apparently had a billed book and their account frozen. They were demanding the librarian help them immediately. They said they could look through the books and put them back (never mind that they're some random person off the street, and for all we know, this was an elaborate and insane scheme to kidnap some kids). When it was explained that it was a transfer and would have to go back to another branch, she demanded the librarian on duty search for it.
Our library used to be a house. Our book drop is a small closet, maybe as many square feet as a medium-sized entertainment center. There were four stacks of transfer books tightly packed with other stacks, varying from up to my knees to up to my waist, and I'm a rather long-legged 5'11" or so. He couldn't have found that one book if he tried. He said it would basically be impossible, and offered to immediately check in all the transfers so it would get checked in as soon as possible. This wasn't good enough for her, and she said that she was asking him to "be a nice library guy", and he was instead choosing to be "very bureaucratic."
I'm either sick, or just over being sick and not recovered, I've been up since 2 in the morning too hot/cold and achey to sleep, and I have Aspergers. I usually try to be polite, but I just couldn't restrain myself. I told her to get out. Not the best response, but we were bending over backwards to help her and she was insulting the librarian for not performing miracles instead. I... Gah, my whole day is shot, I'm so stressed.
EDIT: Sorry for the original wall of text, was a quick post sent from my iPod Touch in part of a desperate bid to remain calm enough to make it through the remaining work day. Also, she apparently gave the librarian a very apologetic letter. I should probably give her one in return, if I can.
