Yeah I wouldn't trust the gun. I tried to buy my mom a TV at target for christmas the gun said they had 3 but when they went to get one there wasn't a single one in stock. So either someone stole 3 tv's or someone screwed up.
Something like that happened to me with a DVD that I tried to buy at Circuit City. We used to have two CC's in my area, and the one I usually went to was all out. However, they checked the computer and told me that the other one had seven copies in stock, so I went there.

When I got to the other one, there were none to be found. They checked their computer, and there's said the same thing, but no one could find them, even after looking in the back room. They decided that someone must have stolen all seven copies and told me when the next shipment was going to be in.

On my way out, I saw all seven copies sitting at the end of an unused checkout.

One of the first rules we learned: Never tell the customer we have it unless it is in your hand. Also, never tell them how many the computer says we have. Up until a few years ago, we could only tell how many were supposedly in the store; it didn't tell how many were customer orders on hold. That info is now available, but it doesn't count copies that were just put on hold from within the store (customer calls and asks to hold it), only what was special-ordered, so you still can't trust that the copies it says are there are actually going to be sellable.

As for other stores, the computer only tells whether nearby stores have it in stock, not how many. It just says In stock, call to confirm.

...so you looked up at the ceiling, and down at the floor, and had some more coffee?
        Absolutely

And I've found coffee tastes sweeter when its seasoned with the concerns of overly-picky SCs.

Hmm...I've never liked coffee...might have to try it that way sometime, if I ever work a retail job again...
