There is one thing I really hate about the Paint Department, when people want to "call in" an order. Nine times out of ten, they get some part of the information I need wrong or it's just left out. This ain't like ordering pizza, I need to know a Color and if it is ours or another stores; Inside or Outside; Flat, Satin or Gloss; Wood, Metal or Concrete; Gallon or Quart. And this is often complicated by someone else taking a message for the order, but at least I have a good excuse for why I didn't mix it, was that interior or exterior?

I had a lady call in one on Thursday just before closing, she wanted "Comencement Blue". She said it several times, but when I go to the computer, there is no "Comencement Blue", but there is a "Comencement" and it is blue. Of course there is also a White, Antique White, Navajo White, Celling White, Angel White, etc.

So I wait for her to get here and confirm the color, which was right,...this time.

I had a guy once call in and want "Hunter Green", easy right? Not when he was using some other companies paint first. Aside from White & Black and the Federal Safety Colors, there are no guarantees that one companies Hunter Green will match anothers, and it didn't.

I still remember the "Daylight" mess that cost us 5 gallons of paint. Our old computer would ask you what light would this paint be in, Daylight, Incandescent or Flourescent? When this lady called in her order, she asked for "Daylight" and there was a color by that name in the computer. Of course 5 gallons later,

Tomorow I am expecting another headache. While I was at lunch the other day, somone called in a 30 gallon order with 10 rolls of masking tape & 5 rolls of paper (but didn't say what size of course). We didn't have enought on hand for that, so they called our other store, but when she asked for HPX-P, they heard HPX-T. So we couldn't mix their paint. Of course I wouldn't mix it till I am sure of what color they want, I do not want to waste that much paint! It would not only cost us, it would wipe out both store's supply for a week.

I called in the right paint from our other store, but as usual our weekly truck from Texas will get here before they get around to sending the paint about 30 miles to us. And of course tomorow being Sunday, there will be no managment for them to complain to, they will have a day to stew and then be extra mad Monday when they do get to talk, well yell at a boss.

Nice to be off on Mondays.
