It's perfectly reasonable for the policeman to assume that a woman who claims to have 'been diagnosed', AND who is currently in a hospital building, would be either receiving appropriate treatment or be going Against Medical Advice.
Either way, she's not his responsibility. Offering to get a nurse to help her is exactly what I'd expect him to do - and as someone else said, if she was in medical need (not public-safety need), a nurse is the right person. Not a police officer.
