  • Sunrise PWNED an SC!!

My old high school has open campus, so they can go and have lunch elsewhere. Unfortunately, I was working at this time, on headset.

    DING!

    McG: *openingspielthatIhatesomuchgodie*
High schoolgirl: "Well, like, I want this and this"
    McG: *types in*
HSG:"Wait,no. I actually want this and this and this"

So we spin right round and keep at this for a few minutes. I have to call Sunrise over to type in her manager's number because I kept taking things off and that's how the register works. If you take off too much, a manager has to enter in their number so one can continue.

And hte girls were getting pissy. They kept messing up and then yelling at me when I typed in what they said, because they meant something else.

HSG:"OMG! Like how hard is it?"

McG: *thinking* 'How hard is it to order?'

Apparently it's more difficult than reading something written by someone other than Stephanie Meyer (EHYO! Thanks for the phrase, Irving!).

After that long, arduous process, Sunrise looked at me and the cash person.

Sunrise: "We are parking them. Even if we have the food. Park them. We'll make them late for school. There's no reason for them to be that annoying and difficult."

So, we park them and they don't get their food until 5 minutes til they had to go back to the school.

That is the only time we ever parked anyone to make them late. Sunrise is not the type to go against customers, even when she admits to us that the customer was wrong, but we have to bend to them.

Oh Sunrise, how I will miss thee during my leave of absence!

Making the person pull out of the drivethru line and parking in a parking spot. Normally it's for situations where they're waiting on some particular food item to come out of the fryer and the workers don't want corporate asking why a car sat at the drive thru window for a solid 5 minutes.

            *curtsies

The inspiration for that phrase came when I was reviewing some of the halloween candy planograms at the swamp the other day. One of them called for a four-foot section of Twilight/New Moon/What The Hell Ever-themed candy.

Please feel free to cringe, as I did when I read that.

My old HS did that, too! It was a special priveledge that they reserved for the seniors. The thing is...When I was a Senior, that perk had been revoked...the reason why? The PRIOR Senior class (year) had, in some way, abused that priveledge. Naturally, the school punished them by making it so WE could not go off-campus to eat...

Hehe maybe you'll be so lucky as to not have to deal with those particular SCs again. Since you guys, you know, 'take too long to get the food ready'.

We had the privilege for all 4 grades, but it was revoked after a girl from our school wrapped her car around a tree, going 70 mph in a 30 mph zone.

reminds me of my middle school 'section'(each grade was broken into three sections). One kid tried to run away during a field trip, so our section was not allowed a field trip for the rest of the time we were there. This happened in grade 7, but we were not allowed an 8th grade class trip because of this kid. The other sections were allowed several.

Because they couldn't just keep the kid from going on the field trips.

At one point when I was in HS, 16 year old and up could go off campus during lunch . . . but b/c so many got caught skipping classes, it was changed to seniors only (or it may have been juniors and seniors, damn memory . . .) However you had to have a signed form with a parent's signature on it in your folder in the Main Office that said you had permission to go off campus for lunch, otherwise your ass was grass and they were gonna mow it with a Briggs and Stratton.

I was already 18 when I started my senior year, so legally I didn't have to have a signed form w/Mom's signature stating I had permission to go off campus, however b/c we had plenty of jerks in positions of "authority" (real or imagined) at my school, I wanted to make sure not a damned soul could say jack to me (one teacher tried to but I'll post that elsewhere, as I digress.)

But the year after I'd left, my stepbrother told me (he had started at the same school as a 9th grader) that they had put the brakes on allowing kids off campus for lunch. Turned out two students (both of them I knew from the previous year) had went off campus for lunch and the car they were in (he was driving, she was a passenger) ran a red light on their way back to school and hit head-on with another car.

Both the driver (who was the younger brother of a guy I'd graduated with just the previous May) and an infant in the other car were both killed. The driver of the other car (the child's mother) and the other former classmate (also his g/f) were seriously injured. Classmate who survived was out of school the rest of the year due to her injuries (major fractures in hip/leg and pelvic bone as well as head trauma, IIRC.)

Turned out the other classmate was speeding . . . 80 in a 55 at the time of the crash.

We had the same deal at my high school. Sophmores, Juniors & Seniors could apply for a lunch pass. I had that privilege for ONE year, my Sophomore year. Towards the end of my Sophomore year, a junior, the newly elected upcoming Senior Class President was killed in a roll-over accident during lunch. He was sitting in the back of a truck and he was thrown from the pickup when the driver, his friend, took a turn at something like 60mph. He was thrown from the truck and the truck eventually rolled over and crushed his head. This happened in front of the local Taco Hell and about 30 students also on lunch passes. Needless to say, all lunch passes were revoked forever.

                            My thoughts exactly.

My school didn't allow us to go off campus during lunch. Our lunch periods weren't long enough anyway, and any places close enough to get there and back were mostly sit-down places (maybe one quickie pizza joint, but there are no fast food places close to the school). I can see how letting students to go out for lunch might encourage them to drive recklessly if they are running late.

My high school may have allowed students to go off campus for lunch, or it may not have. I forget.

Oh wait, now I'm pretty sure they did. That's how the greasy diner down the road from school did most of its business.

Anyhow, I always ate lunch at school. The diner's food is pretty gross and the fast food joints in town aren't close enough to get there, order, eat, and be back at school within the 30 minutes-or-so lunch period you have.
