  • remembered from parking enforcement

OK, I don't know why I'm remembering these all the sudden, it's been 3 years since I had that job. Anyway, a few that I recall.

    perhaps listening helps
OK, nearly every single lot I patrolled was either free with a time limit (ie- parking for Burger King customers only, half hour time limit or parking for Albertsons customers only, 2 hour time limit, etc) or pay in advance for the time you needed (like meters, except longer term). Now, when you are parking and I am checking the lot and I inform you that it is a paid parking lot, if you don't pay for the parking up front I will give you a ticket, the correct response is NOT "OK, I'll pay when I leave"
Also, please do not be surprised when after I have told you that if you don't pay in advance that I will give you a ticket that I actually *gasp* give you a ticket... and yelling at me that you had every intention of paying does not sway me when you passed 3 signs and I told you what would happen.

your stupidity is not my fault
This was at the Burger King lot and happened quite often. Yelling at me that there should be more warning given that you couldn't park there and go to the library... don't mind the sign at each entrance and about every 15 feet along the perimeter stating that the parking is for Burger King parking only, half hour time limit, park and walk will result in ticket... nope, we didn't give warning at all.

    yes, we do press charges
this guy is the reason I quit. yes, I know getting a parking ticket sucks, but there is an easy way to avoid this... read signs to know if you are parking where you are supposed to and pay for your parking. So, attempting to kill the enforcement agent by hitting him with your car (I was able to dodge and only got glanced by the mirror) is a good way to wind up with charges being pressed... oh, I bet that guy was surprised when the cops showed up at his door... that's the other thing, how stupid do you have to be to try to hit someone with a car that just got a parking ticket which means that we have all your information on file... idiots.

Damn! What a dumbass! Trying to run over a parking enforcement officer over getting a ticket?!!! Jeez. I don't blame you at all for quitting that job, smiley.

Wow, that was pretty close. So what happened when you went to court? I love the excuses people come up with!

Probably the typical: "I didn't see him/her", "S/He walked right out in front of me", or "I never tried to hit anyone!"

Like the lot attendants just picked someone at random to press charges against.

thank God it never went to court... I wasn't injured (just some minor bruising and scared shitless) so I really didn't care what happened past the point of the guy having the crap scared out of him when the police arrive. I never got a call back asking me to go to court, so I don't know what happened to the guy, but as I said, I wasn't injured more scared so having him getting the crap scared out of him was the big thing.

If it troubled you enough that you ultimately decided to quit because of this incident, I wish you had followed through with pressing charges/suing/etc. That's a pretty traumatic experience, even if you were only bruised. And besides, I'm pretty vindictive like that. Let him take the full responsibility for the consequences of his actions. This wasn't a mistake or simple heated moment, this was intentional assault with a deadly weapon. Just my opinion.

It's called vehicular assault. The woman that caused my car accident is getting charged with that....
