  • Cussed Out By A 3 Year Old.

I know I've mentioned this lady and her child before. I didn't mention the fact they're Hispanic. While I have no problems with Hispanic people, I DO have a problem with people of any race who do not bother to pick up after their children. She sticks out in my mind the most because she's the worst at it. She tries to discipline him but making an attempt to put the crap he picks up back, stop him from spitting on the counters, sneezing with his mouth and nose uncovered, stuff that makes common sense, she doesn't do it.

Yesterday was another spiffy Saturday night at Aid of Rite, all was quiet until she came in. Mom is yammering away on a cell phone in Spanish and boy, naturally, gets bored and wanders off to play with the clearance balls. Next thing I know there's balls all over the store, so I mentally and start picking up. Boy comes flying around the corner the minute one of the balls goes back into the basket, gives me an and then when my back is turned, pulls them all out again. I go over and put them back. As I'm one aisle away by now, he toddles over and says, "Hey! Hey! (Something in Spanish about his balls!)" and runs back and grabs out a bottle of bubble bath shaped like Lightning McQueen and several toy trucks and the balls. I go over and put them back and tell him that we do not leave toys out because people will hurt themselves (in English). He gets mad and yells at me in Spanish again. Where is mom? Yammering away on her cell phone, shopping, rounds the corner with her basket and finally sees the devastation her son is wrecking and yanks him away...leaving the pile of crap for me to clean up. Boy still gives me a DEATH GLARE as he's leaving.

Right, for next time he's in, can someone tell me how to say "Here, we do not leave toys out, you are in a store, not at home and people will hurt themselves and be very mad at you and your mom"? Pretty please?

"Por favor, no toques los juguetes. No son para jugar en la tienda."

It's not exactly what you asked for, but it's a three-year-old kid; I don't mince words and I don't give children long explanations. What I said was, "Please don't touch the toys. They're not for playing with in the store." That should be enough for the kid.

If you need a pronunciation guide, I'll be more than happy to provide one. I know it's a mouthful for a non-native speaker.

How to say "NO" in 520 languages.

Of course, "No" in Spanish is "No".
