Do not fuck with the cook.
If you want to know what is going on with your food, talk to your server.

If you piss him off, your food may take quite a while. Or it could have been overcooked/undercooked. I know that if I order my burger medium rare, I am not going to be happy with it well done. Or if I ask for no ketchup, ketchup on the burger will irritate the hell out of me. There are ways to mess with people's food without messing with their food, if you follow me. There is a huge difference between tampering with food and having food get delayed or mismade.
Personally, I think that the OP should have left the asshole's ticket at the end of the line. But then, I'm a vindictive bastard.
I often have people ask me "how long will our food be," though to be fair, many of the culprits are children who are just ridiculously impatient and often too young to understand the logistics involved. But for child or adult, I always say the same thing: "We do have to cook it." That usually gets the point across, to adults, and for children to their parents to rein their children in.
