I can't wait for the days of no longer being a poor student so I can afford laser eye surgery. And by then I'll need bifocals
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

-6.25 means she can only read if the paper is about 10cm from her eyes!
(I should know - my eyes are that bad too)
For her to leave her apartment without her glasses is just mind boggling.
No, she doesn't HAVE glasses! That's why she needs her contacts! WHY CAN'T ANYBODY UNDERSTAND THAT!!!! WHY ARE THEY KEEPING THE CONTACTS FROM ME?

Seriously, though... why is it illegal to get glasses and contacts without a prescription? ... is it because they really are crack? 'Cause if they are, I gotta get me some serious contacts. Maybe ones that turn my eyes green. I'm jealous of my mother's green eyes. Mine used to be hazel, but now they're just brown.

Contact lenses are pretty much the bane of my existence. I cannot tell you how many FREAKING times a day I get someone calling to bitch about something contact lens related. Bonus points if they call on a weekend for their script/a spare pair/whatever when I don't have a doctor working to fill it.

WEAR YOUR FUCKING GLASSES AND GET OVER IT. YOU WILL NOT DIE BECAUSE YOU HAD TO WEAR GLASSES FOR A FEW DAYS!!! (Unless you continue acting like a whiny little bitch, and then I might KILL YOU!!!)

        .....*cough*...

Sorry, I've been holding that in for like four years now.

Well, you have to have the prescription so that the glasses are the right strength and corrective type.

Can you imagine what would happen if someone told the eyeglass shop the wrong prescription, they got made, and then something happened to him? The liability (no matter if the glasses were even related to the incident) could be ugly.

Not to mention the danger to everyone else if they're driving and they can't see properly.

I have much to learn about glasses. To the public library!

(Would this be a bad place to mention I'm thinking of getting contacts? )

I tell patients to think of glasses and contacts as medicine for their eyes, and to think of us as the pharmacist. So no prescription, no glasses or contacts.

                  Nice analogy.

This is why, at my eye doc appt last week, the doctor finally convinced me to get a backup pair of glasses.

Well, it really helps also that our new insurance at work is allowing coverage for BOTH contacts and glasses. It used to be only one or the other and I was not going to pay 100% out of pocket for glasses.

I hate glasses, I absolutely do. I have the roundest face and look dreadful in them. But after what happened the last couple of weeks and having to go with uncomfortable colored contacts, I'd deal with it!

Personally, I don't believe in contact lenses. They are just so much hassle and so maintenance-intensive that to me, they just aren't worth it. Moreover, you still need to have glasses anyway as a backup. That right there is more than enough for me to say no. My prescription is one that NO eyeglass shop carries as a "stock" lens, so my lenses always have to be custom made and are hella expensive.

Plus, I've been wearing glasses for about 20 years now and they are a part of me. I honestly can't imagine not having them. If I ever get tired of them, I'll save up the money for LASIK and be done with it (though I must admit that I've read about LASIK and seen pictures and it scares the hell out of me).

In any event, the woman in the OP is obvious more than a little vain and probably needs serious help......

Someonebiting themselves because they didn't get their way would result in a call to 911. The ambulance would be needed for me as I would be dying of laughter.

I have seen some strange stuff in my years of retail, but never anyone over 2 bite themselves

We had someone like that who scratched out some of their cornea about a month ago. I immediately thought of Junior Mintz and her story. Luckily, it was no where near as bad as her patient.

I understand where you're coming from...I've been wearing glasses for most of my life, and by now I'm actually legally blind. I don't mind glasses so much, but want to get the LASIK surgery as well. I have asked around and the general opinion is that it's not bad, is painless, and gives good results. It's natural for it to be scary though. I did try contact lenses, but just couldn't get myself to put them in my eyes.

Depends on the lenses that you get. Mine really don't have any maintenance at all. Take 'em out at night, rub 'em with a little solution, put 'em in the case, and dump more solution on 'em....that's it. Same as when I had hard lenses.

I could actually leave them in 24/7 and change them once a week, but I'm so Scottish that I take them out every night so I can get 2 weeks out of them.
