i feel bad that you had to go through that, std; the company you work for is seriously fail for not providing protection of some sort throghout the day.

i think he was schizo, but there may have been drugs (not the type he needs) involved as well; that sounds scary and then some.

I definitely did not complete the refund. He grabbed everything and his receipt just as I was setting the till up to do a refund, and I need the receipt to complete it, so we kept his money and he kept his stuff.

Security really isn't to blame for this... Our store is actually really safe, one of the lowest incident rates in the whole chain of nearly 100 stores, and the security officers they hire all have police or legit high-stakes security backgrounds and therefore have to be paid higher wages, so corp doesn't really see the point in sending them to our store all the time when there's generally nothing wrong. They're around a couple of days a week, and that's generally pretty sufficient.

Thing is though if something DOES happen to an employee them said company is totally at fault for NOT providing proper security and protection.

I'm actually in the same situation where I work here. I'm alone on my nightshift, only one in my entire dept. (xray) and there's nobody within shouting distance or anything. (it's a 1 acre big dept.)

and sometimes security staff will walk through the dept. but i've gone entire weeks without seeing anybody.

issue I have with this is, ok i'm an avg. sized guy (5'11, 185 lbs). but if some crazy 300 lbs drunk decides he wants to use me for a punching bag then i'm screwed unless i MANAGE to get to a phone and MANAGE to get through to security. (and management will do nothign about this. we've all complained and nothings done so basically they are waiting for one of us techs to get hurt and THEN will do something about it. great management eh?) - sorry thread hijack. i apologize

I hope you hadn't finalized the refund, and since you have his info, if you did finalize it you can still prosecute right?

I was wondering if you had finished with the refund transaction before he left. If you did not and he didn't get a refund he left with his things. I am wondering also if he got his card back, or if he even gave it to you for the refund. You left me hangin'.

Anyway, he sounds like a druggie. Too much meth. Did you see if he purchased any light bulbs? Also, if I am at work and I press a security code or try to page LP if they're not in the building fine, but SOMEONE ANYONE should have come to see that you were ok. That is not safe, and you need to speak with managment about the issue.

I wasn't completely alone. There were at least five co-workers within shouting distance (and, that night, all were big, bulky dudes), and two who could see me at all times. I had mentioned it to one of them as I walked past him, so he was watching for me. If things had gotten bad, I wouldn't have been totally screwed. I love my co-workers and they would have been there to help me out, for sure.

You know, it may sound weird, but I've heard of schizos trying to prove the voices are really there by recording them. If he can prove they're real by recording them, then he's not sick and doesn't need meds. That may have been why he was so hyper to get the best recorder you had, but then cheaped out on a cell phone. He probably meant the whole return thing was a joke, but because he wasn't completely in touch with reality he couldn't see how creepy he really was.

Still very dangerous situation, and I'm glad you're alright, std.
