Customer: I show you offer unlimited storage for web hosting.
    Me: That’s right.
Customer: So how much storage is that?
    Me: …err. Unlimited.
    Customer: Right. Thanks! *hangs up*

I swear this happened at least 2-3 times a day when I was working graveyard shift phone tech. at 15 calls a day, 2-3 times is a heck of a lot for such idiocy.

Another I found in an email ticket later:

"I saw on your website before I signed up that you advertise UNLIMITED domains, but I see after signing up that you limit your domains to 999 Addons/Parked/Etc. That is CLEARLY a LIMIT"

I mean, really, if you REALLY want to host more than 10-12 domains on a $7 a month shared hosting account, be our guest, but it's your own fault when your account keels over dead. It's about like trying to fit more than 6 people in the back of your Honda Civic. It's just not going to work, and if it does, it's a dumb idea anyways.

Well, in their defense, unlimited isn't. It can't be. It has to have an upper limit, because storage media is finite, so saying it's unlimited is, by it's very nature, not true.

lol gotta love technicalities. when i was working at a dollar store, i had people get pissed when their total for one item rang up to more than a dollar. forgot about tax, i guess.

...i also had waaaay too many people asking me how much stuff was. in a dollar store.

It wasn't dumb! It was experimental!!! And we still keep in touch!

but do you REALLY think I can say anything other than what the webpage says? I'm an employee, not an independent third party. :-P

That's a can of worms I refuse to open...unless they start the call with "I'm a sysadmin. don't dumb things down".

Oh, I don't blame you at all.

I blame the powers that be and I don't understand how they get away with even using the word, since it's inherently false advertising. *shrug*

They're able to get away with it since if a user fills one drive they get moved to a bigger one. I just found an account that was 207GB in size, and was in the process of being moved to a bigger server with 1TB drives.

They get away with it because nobody has been malignant enough to try and upload several TB of random data yet. And because most people have better things to do with their time or just don't give a flying crap...

Well, we have a terms of service that bans any "file storage" - anything that is not actively used in the website, any copyrighted content, and a file count limit as well, so while we have no limit on that, we do limit the big storage users.
