  • its locked, dont touch it!!

so last night we were trying to close (we close at 9) and theres one last customer

i had already shut off and locked the back door and i stood by the front door waiting to let this customer out. my co worker says she kept on having to grab more stuff and blah blah. and finally its like 9:05 and shes done....

im still waiting.. i see her go to the back and laugh because its locked. and wait for her to come up front.

    she never came.

she unlocked the backdoor and left that way. only to push the door of its track. THANK YOU. its a sliding door...not a push /pull door.

i spent 15 minutes trying to get it back on track and be able to lock it from the outside.

    i appreciated that.

and thats prob the 3rd time ive had to do it. people!!! dont touch the locks!!

1st of all...i wouldnt be in a store that late anyways. you know when they are closed!
2ly...if the door was off or locked id wait for someone to open it. im not going to start fidgeting with doors i may break...UGH

Hee, that reminds me of all the people who bitch that 'the bathroom's locked!!'

Actually, it's a push door with a decorative handle that doesn't move. They try and depress the handle, which of course doesn't move, and they ASSUME the door is locked. I've begged them to get signs for the doors that say 'push.'

That happened a lot when I was working at the grocery store. The main doors would be locked, and the only way to exit would be through the fire exit. The floor manager would wait until everyone was ready to leave and then let us all out. Or if there were customers, he'd just let them out while the rest of us cleaned.

However, most customers would always try to slip to the main doors and pry them open to get out.

What I never understood, was the emergency exit that the manager kept opening was right in front of the cash. How could they not notice?!

Reminds me of a former co-irker of mine. At the time, when the store was closed and they were calling the FDLP up to clock out, we would set the sliding doors to 'locked,' but leave them partially pushed apart, so our fellow CWs could push them open enough to leave. EVERYONE did this, even the newbies on their first closing shift, without having to be told. And if I happened to be close enough to see them pushing it open like a push-door, I would tell them "Just slide them open." And they would.

Not this guy. EVERY NIGHT I closed with him, I would tell him (with visual aid hand gestures) to "slide them open" to leave. EVERY TIME, he would push the doors open outward like a push-door.

Irritated the fuck out of me.

Reminds me of the time when I worked as a lunchtime cook in a bar although different circumstances.

One very busy lunchime the phone started ringing... a very agitated woman was on the line complaining she was locked in the ladies cubicle because the door handle was loose and kept spinning round and had been yelling for ages trying to attract attention.

I put the phone down, walked to the ladies and pushed the door open... the door handle was just for pulling to get out, ther was no catch on the door apart from the vacant/engaged lock she's already undone.

She wasn't very impressed, complained that the door should have a sign saying pull on it (in the seven years I was there, she was the only person that it happened to!) & moaned that her food was getting cold... nice try, she'd ordered a sandwich!

We did refresh her drink for her as a gesture of good will though
          Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.
