  • If You Can't Follow Simple Directions *Warning Strong Profanity*

Before I go into this, let me tell you about the way our credit/debit machine works. When using credit you just simply swipe your card, and push the yes button. If you use debit you swipe your card then enter your PIN number. You will then be asked if you want cash back. If you don't (pay attention this part is important) push the no button only once. The reason is when you hit no it takes a few seconds for it to come up with your total. Then you push yes for amount okay.

Now there are people who do push the no button more than once because where nothing showed up at once, they thought they did it wrong. I simply tell them just hit it only once, then it goes through just fine. Then they're happy, even joking about how all machines should be the same.

    Not this lady

    Me:
    SL: Stupid Lady

Me: That will be blah blah blah, and blah blah

    SL: *Takes out card*

Me: Will that be debit or credit.

SL: Debit. * swipes card enters pin, then when it asks about cash back, she hits no button twice cancelling it.

Me: Maam I'm sorry you'll have to slide your card again.

SL: But I didn't want cash back

Me: Okay when it asks if you want cash back hit the no button just once and wait a second or two. Then hit yes for amount okay.

SL: *rudely* I did press no only once when I slid my damn card the first time.

Me: *Thinking* I saw you push no twice dumbass.

    SL: *angrily punching buttons*

Me: Now when it comes up asking if you want cash back hit the no button just once then wait.... now press the very top button where it says yes for the amount you're paying.

SL: *pushes the no button again*

Me: Maam You'll have to swipe your card again.

    SL: WHAT FOR

Me: Because you hit no when it came amount okay, and cancelled it.

SL: NO I DIDN'T I PRESSED THE GODDAMN YES BUTTON!!!

    Me: *Thinking* Yes you did.

So SL swipes her card 2 more times before finally getting it. She snatches the reciept out of my hand and storms out the door.

Seriously lady don't get a fucking attitude with me just because your stupid ass can't follow simple directions. How fucking hard is it to push the no button just once and once only. Jumpin Jesus Christ naked on a pogo stick , if you can't follow simple directions, cut your card up and go back to using cash.

Sorry for the length and strong language. I sure could use a drink right now.
Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin here no more.

    There, there.

At least you weren't dealing with an idiot who couldn't slide it the right way, despite you showing them multiple times the right way to slide it...

I seem to encounter a lot of folks who want to swipe very fast and aggressively, which frustrates me because this will:

      - often not work, since the machine has trouble picking up a super fast swipe
      - wear out/break the machine that much faster
"If we refund your money, give you a free replacement and shoot the manager, then will you be happy?" - sign seen in a restaurant

Unfortunately, over the years, I've discovered that it's very hard for a lot of people....and they wonder why I drink.

And to avoid the problem altogether she could've just run it as credit so long as it was one of the (ultra-common) visa/master debit cards.

Hey, I've been that person! Lady kept trying to tell me I was doing it wrong and I was too focusing on the machine that while I heard her, my brain wasn't processing what she was saying.

And no, I'm not usually technology challenged.

But I totally understand the frustration about people getting annoyed when they pressed no for amount ok and then getting annoyed cause they swear they don't (they at least usually realize it when they do it again that yes, they did press no. I've learned just to say, "You could have pressed no but sometimes the machine has a brain fart." to avoid the "I didn't press no!" wank that some customers will give you and rather may get a little grumbling at the machine instead).

Customers are always canceling the transaction on the debit machine where I work.
                Apparently

                Tip

                No= CORR Yes = OK

                is too hard to understand.
People are always pressing the red button that is marked CANCEL
