  • I am going to sue you for obeying the law

So this is in reference to the post I made about the woman that claimed her reporting a gas leak was a false report and she was going to sue us if we shut her gas off.

Our tech went out there and turned the woman's gas off. She was threatening to sue us for creating a hardship and not believing her when she said there wasn't a problem.

It's a good thing too. It turns out the gas leak was not a false report. We repaired the leak and turned her gas back on. If we had listened to her we would have been in violation of the law and it would have been legal grounds for a lawsuit.

Not to mention, it might have seriously injured someone. Sheesh, some people live in their own little land of insanity, don't they?

I have to reiterate it, because it seems so crazy that I want to be sure I'm getting it clear.
      • She had an appointment that she wanted bumped up, so she falsely reported a gas leak.
      • In accordance with the law, the gas company shut off the gas, but didn't bump her up.
      • Discovering her little trick didn't work, she insisted there was no gas leak and demanded they turn the gas back on.
      • When the followup inspection determined that there WAS a gas leak, she threatened to sue for doing what she told the gas company to do.

...Nope. Still not making much sense.

That's a good summary. At least she won't get in trouble with the law for reporting a gas leak falsely since there was one?

Actually there is no law on the books for falsely reporting a gas leak to us. I doubt there ever will be either as it would be difficult to prove someone intentionally made a false claim. Some people are really nervous about gas equipment and any weird smell gas or not gets a call out.

          ?
Actually the truly crazy part is that was the original reason for the call was a gas leak. She really had one the whole time but she didn't like that our policy was to turn it off for safety if we couldn't access the home.
