I've worked in so many types of jobs that sometimes I get my stories mixed up as to where they actually happened. Among the list on the resume is working at a hotel...
A popular steakhouse restaurant chain, which I'll call BigSteak, was moving from their old building to a newer, flashier, custom built one further on down the street. BigSteak is a pricier restaurant that then to attract a lot of people in nice suits and who want $100 bottles of wine. A major business mecca in other words and held to high standards. They kept most of their employees from the old location to the new location, but for some reason still decided to bring in a group of about 10 consultants and trainers to re-orient everyone. This group of BigSteak trainers stayed for about a month and at least half of that was training the employees in a CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC restaurant to hammer in their standards. These training sessions kept the employees working until about midnight, at which point all the trainers would go over stuff, write reports and come back to their hotel. But not before getting shit-faced, loud and obnoxious in their own restaurant.
For almost an entire month that various BigSteak trainers were in the hotel, they'd come back to their rooms at 1 or 2 am as loud, disorderly and banging on doors. On one night, they managed to pick a fight on the way walking home and ended up with a couple of people in jail. On other nights, well I'm sure there was some drunken sex going on between different members of the group. I'd like to remind you again that these are the people who were FLOWN IN to the city to train employees and managers. i.e. the responsible ones. We also had the head guy's number by the phone to call if there were any problems. Nice in theory but the head guy was also either 1) drunk 2) not in his room 3) not much help if he did come talk to his crew.
Despite being in the hotel for a month, they continually forgot which rooms they were in and which rooms other people were in, resulting in a lot of banging on wrong people's doors and slurred phone calls to the front desk.
At least one night they all had the evening off and decided to hang out in the pool area. They were already drunk and we got a call from a 60 year old woman who wanted someone to make sure her poolside room door was locked because she was scared of them.
At least some of the BigSteak trainers tried to claim it wasn't entirely their fault... saying that many nights they were only able to eat something themselves in late afternoon, 4pm or sometimes not at all in the evening, constantly missed breaks, and then started drinking around 10pm on somewhat empty stomachs.
Naturally we complained to OUR manager about this all through the month, and grew a big folder of issues. But most of these were waved away since the group contract had been setup and sold BY our manager and thus this group of highly respected BigSteak employees could do no wrong.
When BigSteak employees finally left they paid the front desk off with $50 gift certificates and this was supposed to make everything okay.
