I completely agree. Which is why I spent forty pounds on mine, and have worn it several times other than prom, as it is just plain, and certainly does not look like a giant pink monstrosity.

It was an Alfred Angelo A line, in "Splum" (sugar plum, a deep purple violet, but splum's more fun to say), with a tiara and ten pounds worth of jewelry and makeup and expensive shoes that got kicked off after the first dance. I did my own makeup and nails, however. Entire kit cost $500, makeup, hair, gown, shoes, awesome 50's car best friend and I rented, corsage, yada yada ya...
