  • CW was assulted yesterday at work

I worked with EL here at this library for years. She is a pretty calm, serious, but funny, cw. They made her manager of a branch, and she was there for 6 years, then really recently they made her a manager of another branch.

Yesterday, at her new branch, which is a regional branch so the building is kind of big, she went up to patron. This patron first came in the day before. CW told him that he had to keep his voice down, (that some patrons complained...I don't know if she told him that part) so he stands up and hits her. I understand that she falls and he stil is hitting her when a bunch of patrons grabbed hold of him and restrained him. I understand he was placed in a room until the cops showed up.

No security guard was around; they only come in in the afternoon.

Last night another cw posted on facebook a link to a tv newstory about it, though my computer is crap and I cna't play the video.
So this morning there was a vague email about what happened; that an unnaimed cw was assulted and went to the hospital, though I understand from another cw that she just went home.

There was a meeting today about the incident but I leave early to take care of my mom so I don't know what the meeting is about. I imagine it would be something like, "the Library stands behind it's employees and we have zero tolerence for being assulted by patrons. There is no need to panic."
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

WOW..That's horrible....Maybe it's time to have security around more often.

      Hope she is ok.

The guy who hit that woman is a heartless jerk.

Chances are, someone was off his meds. He was possibly talking to the voices and didn't like her interrupting. That's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with to account for a grown man getting violent with someone like that for such little provocation.

My sincerest wishes for her speedy recovery. Libraries were my haven when I was a kid, and librarians sages who knew exactly where every single obscure reference I needed could be found. I'm saddened to hear that even those quiet halls have been disturbed by violence.

Or he's just a jerk who deserved for someone to "inadvertently" swiftly knee him in the happy sacks while subduing him.

That's terrible. I hope EL makes a speedy and thorough recovery, and the gets locked up for a long time.

A big to those patrons that stepped in and stopped her attacker. People like that give me hope for humanity.

I hope your CW is okay.

I hope she's ok! Too bad she didn't get in a swing or two before he was subdued; you know, purely by accidental reflex. I would have accidentally reflexed all over him, but here's wishing that will happen to him in prison.

You work in a library ?

I worked for a while in an advice centre located inside a library. We potentially deal with a lot of stressed people in crisises - losing their homes, or their jobs or with no money to buy food. The library basically gives out books, dvds, lets people use computers. We had a limited service and often had to tell people we were closed, not seeing more people, that they weren't in out area. The library didn't. If they weren't open you couldn't get near them.

We'd never had an assault on staff, the library unfortunately had. Multiple incidents including someone being stabbed !

It seemed to be partly because it's one of the free warm places you can hang out if you are homeless, or can't keep the heating on all day. And when you have that many very broke people you got a lot of petty crime, and then workers had to try and prevent that. And when librarians get asked to be police to stop people pickpocketing or trying to take library property people got hurt.

                        Horrible.

One of my cw (who wasn't at the scene of the crime, so it might just be scuttlebutt) said he was off his meds. Considering it was the second day the guy was there, it probably would be hard to tell. Then again, he might have been talking to the voices in his head, and that clued in people he wasn't all there.

I heard my cw got bruised up, and she was sent home. I don't know how long she will stay home. I wouldn't blame her if she never comes back. I just know her as a really nice, patient woman. It's shitty that this happens to anyone.

And yes, props to the patrons who stepped up. Maybe they will get unlimited time on the computers from now on.

Yep I work in a library. And I'm one of those people who will go up to a patron who is noisy or eating or sleeping and tell them not too. I rather get security to do it but security only wants to stand behind me, ie, if I tell the customer not to do x, and customer still does it, then security will speak to them. And the head manager is for that.

I how your co-worker is okay and that the asshole that assaulted her gets the book thrown at him (no pun intended).
                            hee; I hope so too.
