  • Sending in your kids to do your returns is not always easier.

Of course we are getting so many returns these days. Most customers were actually nice and friendly during the shopping madness but they are switching gears doing their returns.

    Me.....
SC.....Lady that sent her daughter in to do the return
    SD.....The teenage daughter

SD hands me the bag that contained two clothing items to be returned with two receipts but no tags attached. When we have the tags not attached we need to scan it through our ticket maker and the description of the item comes up. I scan both tickets and they match so I attach them and scan the receipts to start the return.

Me.....I am sorry one of these items is not on either of these receipts.
SD.....Well my mom gave me these receipts.
Me.....Sorry but it is not on any of these. I can still return it but for a store credit.
SD.....(calls mom who is waiting in the car) She said one of the items is not on any of the receipts. Well she is telling me it is not and you are telling me it is so I don't know what to do!
    Me.....I am waiting patiently.
SD.....My mom is on her way in right now.
    Me.....OK
SC.....NOW WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT GOING ON!!!
Me.....Excuse me but please don't talk like that to me. I am trying to help you.
SC.....EVERY TIME I RETURN HERE THIS SHIT HAPPENS TO ME!!!
Me.....Look I work hard and I don't come to work to have somebody talk to me like that for no reason. If you continue to talk like that to me I will not help you.
SC.....I WORK HARD TOO AND I DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH THIS SHIT!!!!! (she tears off the tag I just attached to her clothing item)
Me.....(I page the FEC who walks over) Can you please finish helping this lady. I don't come to work to be cussed at. I will be on another register until you finish with this lady.

The FEC finishes the transaction and when the lady leaves I go back on that register. It turns out the lady did giver her daughter the wrong receipt. She found the right one and gives it to her daughter and tells her she will be waiting back in the car. The FEC attached the tag again and did the return. The daughter did apologize for what happened.

On the long list of things I would LOVE to be able to do is tell a swearing, out-of-line customer to go to hell, with the full backing of my company. If I were in your shoes I'd have given her back her apparell and asked her to leave, encouraging her to return if, and only if, she discovers the proper way to deal with other human beings. Toodles!

Of course, I'd likely be unemployed a that point...

Props to you for navigating that situation gracefully.
    Hmm...more zombies than usual...

Then there still is hope for her.

The mother should've been the one apologizing. Seems the daughter was nothing but polite throughout the whole thing.

Poor thing. Can you imagine how embarassed she was?
