I think now that the SCs don't have VRS to harass anymore with their outlandish demands on their vacations, they went to Princess Snake.

Yep, you can feed them crickets and mealworms; clean ones from the pet store of course. They like protein; will even eat chicken and scrambled eggs. The pregnant ones especially.

This isn't recommended, though. When I was a lad we used to breed hamsters and sell them to the pet store (until the owner found out he was allergic to fur and changed the store to all fish -- he went out of business soon after) and we were told that if they got used to eating meat, they'd eat their babies. Wasn't sure whether to believe this, until we had one that had three pups and the next day there was just her in the cage by herself...

Sometimes they just eat their babies (particularly the males). I had hamsters as a kid (lousy pets, really, should have gone with a guinea pig), and they had babies at one point that didn't exist a full 2 days.
