Since Sheldonrs hasn't said it, I guess I have to... If the priest needed help bringing in the ashes, does that mean he got his ashes hauled?

Anyhow...even if I did participate, I normally sweat so heavily that by the time I got to work, there'd be no evidence I had. I even had one boss a LONG time ago get upset about me not wearing make-up, even after I explained this to her.

So, as the childrens' ages progress, the parents' ages regress?

Holy Necrobump Batman! I haven't seen this topic in a long time.

*dusts off the reward cookies* ....>_>; For those who said The Sims! Cookies! Ignore the dust.

The daycare pretty much takes every step possible to prevent anyone from turning around and suing us, honestly. Moving me was preventing said mother from coming back and potentially suing x.x; Its horrible and I hate it, but it puts money in my pocket for the time being, so I suck it up..

Your boss lacks a spine. Instead of moving you to a different department/classroom/work area/what have you, he/she should have told the religious asshat something along the lines of "Tough shit! Religious preference isn't violating any laws. If you don't want your child here, you're welcome to take him/her elsewhere." And that would be the end of it.
If only. The problem is that the mother can easily turn around and start bawwing that OP's daycare is prejudiced against Catholics, if she's that much of a nut job.

This lady (and I use the term loosely) reminds me of a brain burp I had once. While I was a student tech, I rotated through the Catholic hospital in the area. Founded by nuns and everything. Apparently a few nuns still live there. Anywho, I was down in the cafeteria eating lunch and noticed this elderly woman with what appeared to be a nasty bruise in the center of her forehead. I was wondering how in the world she managed it and thinking how much it must have hurt when I noticed more people with these "bruises."

And then it dawned on me it was Ash Wednesday. Which I probably should have known since while I'm not Catholic, my entire extended family is and I have one set of grandparents who are extremely devout.

I knew it was the Sims! I just had to read through the six pages first... and if there's a God I do sort of think that He's just up there playing with us for His amusement.

And yeah, boss has no right to move you around just because a customer complains about your religion. If you were Jewish or Muslim or something that would be seen as discrimination. If you don't have a religion you may have to point it out to your employer.

Freedom of religion includes freedom from religion.

"I'd have leaned real close and whispered "Southern Baptist".

    Apparently they're scary or something."

... Yeah. Roughly one-third to one-half of northern populations (which are the only one's I've been a part of) are scary. They just usually hide it better than the Bible Belters. One reason for the scary is that Southern Baptists are... 'democratic' in the way they decide and operate on doctrine. Basically, at the time of the founding of a church body-- like, the church down the street is being set up-- the members decide (I'm not sure how, but probably with lots of prayer and study) what the church is going to follow and various important interpretations of the Bible.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Souther...ist_Convention
or, as the wiki states: "Specific beliefs based on biblical interpretation can vary somewhat due to the congregational governance system that gives autonomy to individual local Baptist churches."
... So yeah. Lots of Teh Crrzy.
But, I agree with Recovering Kinkoid, in that the 'lady' probably just wanted to make a scene and draw attention to 'oh what a good Christian I am.'
I also agree with the 'Im-better-than-you-itarains' being the sucky customers of religion and completely missing the point. And not doing the research. And/or having the memory capacity of a flea. No, wait, that's insulting to fleas!
    Blah.

First, that woman is two scoops of fanatic. Though I love that she's too lazy to CHECK the religious status of the people caring for her child until THIS MOMENT.

Plus I'm offended she assumed not Catholic, meant not Christian. I was raised United, and we didn't do Ashes on Ash Wednesday. We did Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday though. There have been many funny conversations I've had that began with, "Did you get your ashes yet?" "No did you eat your pancakes last night?"

Second, I can understand the fear of atheists a little though. There are some atheists who will really try to convert you. Which I think is hilarious, but I won't say more because I don't want to get into fratching.

Crazy parents is one part of me becoming a teaching i do not look forward to.

One year I asked my brother what he would be giving up for Lent. He smiled and said "Religion"

Hey Bugged, congrats! This is the dumbest thing I've read/heard/seen in weeks and weeks! If you're not Catholic you must be either Jewish or (gasp) Muslim? Has this woman never heard of Protestantism?

Whatever. What you should have done was tell her you were Mormon. And that you were so super good at childcare because of having been raised with 37 little brothers and sisters, and that three of your sister wives were expecting right now and wasn't that wonderful!

Seriously, she deserved to be told to STFU and MYOB.

And note please, I do know that polygamy is not condoned by the modern Mormon church, is practiced by only a few groups, and I mean no disrespect to any Mormons here. But it's so much fun to mess with folks like Momzilla, who was clearly off her meds.

I'm an atheist, but I'm also religious. (I'm a SubGenius. Praise "Bob!")

So that woman was right. Surely if cornered like that, I would have succumbed and "admitted" that I was a *gasp* ATHEIST. Because, although the evidence here suggests people actually DO discriminate against my "kind," she would have wasted my time much more if I had told her I was a practicing, preaching, REVEREND with the Church of the Subgenius, a rival cult to her cult. We're all cult members, after all. The Cult of Love. Or maybe the Cult of Slack.

I must measure the Slack Points I can get from preachin' the Word of "Bob," vs. the limited anonymity and limited Dollars I get from my Conspiracy Job. But since Mediocretans do not know of the Slack of "Bob," I can casually announce that I am, perhaps, not a baby-eatin,' Evolution-teachin', Hellbound Atheist, but a Saved Subgenius.

    If they Only Knew.
