    me - "hello, this is xyz company, how may I help you today" (brightly, all words as per company greeting).

    customer - "Have you heard yourself? What was that supposed to be?"

    me - "That's the company greeting, how can I help you today?"

    customer "You should have a good long think about how you answer the phone"

    me -

    Finishes call, which did not go greatly after that.

    Continues to think about possible problems with opening greeting, and thinks, and thinks........
    Customer "why did you answer the phone if you can't help me?"

    maybe they want to feel 'unique' and a scripted greeting is an insult to their individual snowflake-ness. 'Cause you know, they're special.
    Me to a friend: I know I'm crazy, you know I'm crazy, the zombies at the end of the world will know I'm crazy. Thus not eating my brain for fear of ingesting the crazy. It's my survival plan.
