Ranting and racism.

It was a combination of racist and sexist. To explain: regular customer said that he purchased her like one would buy a dog (Alluding to mail-order-brides because she was Asian), making her less than human. Anything to demean the humanity of another along racial lines is racism.

Except the comment would've been equally valid and equally offensive if she was tall, blonde, and had an eastern european accent. So no, I don't think it was racist per-se, just in incredibly poor taste.

The sexism comes into play with the comment about training her better. To me that seems to fall into the idea that women in general need to be submissive to their husbands, along with quiet and respectful in public. Thus making regular customer a jerkface. *nods decisively*

Or, you know, maybe somewhere in between the qualities you describe and the ones the OP did. Like, say, polite and considerate to other patrons? Simply complaining about the guy, and not the woman that supposedly offended, is sexist. But I think you've embellished his sexism a bit.

From her behavior she sounded like a mail-order bride. And his behavior toward her suggested as much. As Zeddmore said, "I think you've embellished his sexism a bit." I would also paraphrase that you've embellished the racism a bit, too.

You guys are just going to have to trust the OP on this one. The OP put the word "Racism" in the title for a reason. He was there. You weren't.

Starting a debate to discuss whether it's racist is not only a topic better discussed at fratching, it is also "failing to see the suck," which, I will remind you, is against the rules of this site.
