  • Hey, I know you can hear me, so how about acknowledging me?

    Seriously, this is starting to get on my nerves. I understand if you don't want to talk, but the least you could do is look at me, but I don't even get that. These people piss me off. Do they really think they're sooooooo much better than me and thus don't have to show any common decency? And there's that word 'common' again....it seems like all the stuff it's used for isn't too common these days. I get especially pissed off at the one with the smug look on their face while they're pretending I don't exist.

    And how is it that so many people have become so fracking lazy? If you pick something up off the shelf, look at it, and decide you don't want it, put it right back. Don't set it on top of a different pallet of items next to where you found it! It's like they go out of their way to give us more work to do. Then there's the stuff they decide halfway through that they don't want. So, do they bring itup to the register and hand it to us saying they don't want it, or go put it back. No, god forbid they do any of that! Just set it down wherever you're at, and if you know it's a crappy thing to do, hide it underneath something. Double points for frozen items. Triple for meats! Then there are those who bring the items to the register, but decide rather than handing the item(s) to us, they'll just set them at the end of the belt, out of sight on the pallets between registers. Or, my personal favorite, load everything onto the belt, and then yell at me for scanning items you didn't want. It's not like you could have told me before hand, no, that would be logical.

    For those that don't know, I work at the Club. In order to shop at the Club, one must be a member. How do we insure that one is a member? Member cards! At the register, the first thing we do before anything else is swipe that card. Can't do anything until that's done. For those new members, I understand not having it out, but if you've been there more than a year, you should know how this works. The fact that I have to ask, and that you react with a deer in the headlights look as though everything suddenly started changing colors and melting, does not speak well of your ability to THINK. Double points for those that do this that have been members since before I was born!

    And a shout out to my managers who want me to change my entire personality for them and do stuff I'm not comfortable with. I am not a good salesman, and I wasn't hired for that. If I was, then I've been sorely misinformed about my dutie. I'm an introvert. I do not interact well with people unless I know them really well. I've told you this.....and you've ignored it. Add to that the fact that I've been asking to get moved somewhere else in the store, anywhere that's not a register, and when an opening comes up, not even telling me about it, even though company policy says you have to. So there goes that opprotunity. Low and behold, annother opening that you actually do tell me about is available, and despite asking about it continuosly, I'm told only that you're still informing people and haven't made any decisions yet. Odd...that other opening was around for two days before you filled it and I found out after the fact, yet now you're taking several weeks to decide, and telling me you're also looking at new hires. Wtf? Don't current employees get priority? Last I knew, that was how things went.

    One last thing for those folks who bring their kids with them; the store is not a playground or daycare center, and letting your kids run around screeaming loudly and jumping onto flatbed carts among other things, is going to get you kicked out. We aren't going to risk that your pwecious gets hurt and you try to sue us for your negligence.

    Not anything big, just a lot of little things adding up. Needed to blow off some steam.

    Depending on where you are, it's entirely possible that they didn't hear you. I've had people I'm actually looking at say things to me, and only realized several seconds later that it happened because I was thinking hard about something else entirely.

    Hell, I've managed to not hear comments from Nekojin, who is sitting beside me, while we're actually having a conversation. I'm always having to ask him to repeat himself when I realize he said something and I have no idea what it was. And it's usually a few minutes later, so he sometimes has no idea what he said, either.

    Ah, registers. Ok, no excuse to not at least acknowledge your existence there.

    That just baffles me. Especially when you can clearly see everyone else either handing the card over as soon as they get to the register, or leaving it on top of their first item.

      Wow, it's like we're the same person. You've said everything I've ever complained about when dealing with people on the job. A lot of the stuff you mentioned here happened to me while I was at work today.

        Got some more to add to the above...

        A shout out to someone we'll call mr G.....you're and asshole. How do I know this? How dare I accuse you of this? Well, let's take a moment to look at what you just did. An old couple are in my line, the lady is standing opposite me while the man is unloading the cart, and you just walk straight up to my register, quickly put your stuff down on the belt before any of the old couples items are within my reach. Then you proceed to ignore the lady as she tries to tell you that they were there first. You then ignore me when I say the same. Your damned lucky that lady was relaxed and waved it off, allowing you to cut in line. So, mr G, screw you.

        To the lady who's ignoring the fact that your child is screaming at the top of his lungs and running in circles, control your kid! This would be a good time to teach him about how one is expected to behave in public. Oh, right, sorry....that would be logical.

        The registers we use at the Club have very small counters. This is because they are disgned so that you can swing your cart around, and I can put it right back into said cart after scanning. No walking required. So to the clueless folks who shove their cart off away from the register, to those that kinda swing it around but only halfway and then lean on it so that I can't pull it around closer and get done faster so you can be on your way, to those wonderful people who say, "you usually have an extra cart here," to whom Ii explain that I'm supposed to but people like to grab and push away from the register, when I go grab an extra cart don't pushit away when you leave!

        And to the winners who don't pay attention to the fact that the customer in front of them is gone because they're too busy blabbing with eachother, are you deaf? I shouldn't have to yell to get you to turn around and glance at me, in fact I pry shouldn't have to try and get your attention at all. You're damn lucky I'm so patient.

        Finally, to the pricks who seem to expect me to read their minds, use your words! They aren't there just to be known, they are there to be used.

        What happened to common sense? Where did it all go? Is it on vacation? In hiding? Did it run away? I wish I knew, because then I'd be able to gather it up and give it to this wonderful group of people known as the public. You know, I think I'm gonna start a series of posts on my blog that focus on common sense, or rather, lack of, in a wide variety of things.

          I'm very guilty of that I'm more or less one sided deaf with an aid in the good side, so having mono hearing does mean that any background noise can drown out speech. So if a person is on my bad side or I've turned my head at the moment someone speaks to me, there's a good chance I wont answer.
          I tend to use the same cashiers where I do the bulk of my shopping & they have more of less guessed what I'm like, but I do find myself apologising a lot in other places
          Arp happens!

          Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

            You're surprised people are pigs and slobs ?

            Everywhere I go these days people leave behind the worst messes. They have no respect for the person or persons who have to clean it up (and before any of you gets on my ass, I know it's their job to do so). I was disgusted when I went to Wally World yesterday and saw the destroyed aisles. It happens at my job, too. It makes me angry that we as a society have turned into lazy slobs who don't care each other.

              I notice a lot of people exhibiting this behaviour. They are apparently unfamiliar with the idea of commerce, the trading of goods and services for a monetary payment. Their items are rung up and they get a look of shock on their face when they are told the total. They then spend the next 30 seconds to two minutes trying to conjure up these funds. I believe the medical terminology for this condition is idiocy.

                I don't envy you as a cashier. I had four or five register shifts before my old location shut down. That was more than enough. At least as a meat wrapper I only have to deal with the customers when I'm running racks or cleaning the shelves. The rest of the time I get to stay in the back.

                  I'm afraid dear CS (wait...>_>) passed away some time ago. Here's one of many obits. RIP.

                  Obituary for
                  Common Sense
                  Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years.
                  No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
                  He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as
                  knowing when to come in out of the rain,
                  why the early bird gets the worm,
                  and that life isn't always fair.
                  Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn)
                  and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
                  His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
                  Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate,
                  teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch,
                  and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

                  It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student,
                  but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
                  Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband;
                  churches became businesses;
                  and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

                  Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize
                  that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit on her lap,
                  and was awarded a huge settlement.
                  Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust;
                  his wife, Discretion;
                  his daughter, Responsibility;
                  and his son, Reason.
                  He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner.

                  Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
                  If you still know him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

                  PS Yes, I am aware that the "coffee" one is out of date (the liquid in question was far, far hotter than it reasonably should have been), but the rest pretty much stands...
